This said, when it comes to a human life, ignorance is never bliss. So Are you (THE GENERAL TERM) helping perpetuate this stigma of mental illness, or are you (THE GENERAL TERM) helping to eliminate it. ONLY you (THE GENERAL TERM) can answer that question.
This may be my favorite post of the day.

This is indeed a sad reality, particularly among older people. I don't know the OP's age, but he/she could certainly be part of an older generation for whom mental illness was considered to be an imaginary illness of weak-minded people. There's still plenty of them out there unfortunately who truly believe that. Thankfully times have changed and we have so much more knowledge on the topic now. Sharing that knowledge with people like the OP will yield better results than shaming them for their outdated ideas.

You understand the concepts of examples, right?
What the hell does your gender have to do with it? You do have the ability to understand the actual meaning behind my post, right?

My God, you make allusions to me being stupid, but how obtuse can you be?!?!

I suspect that's because they are afraid of the great unknown realm of mental illness or have a sneaking suspicion they will be finding out more whether they want to or not.

Possibly but there has been a lot of education in this thread too. This is a subject that needs to be openly talked about more. People with depression need to feel that there is help out there. They don't need to hear from ignorant fools that call them and their parents weak.

Your example assumed my gender, so I simply corrected it. And now you're unraveling even more because I took the time to reply to you, but not in the way that you'd like. Goodness.

That theory of mine that I mentioned a page or so back, about discussion between us being fruitless? I was correct. I won't be responding to you any further.

Oh, I agree with that 100%. The thing that upsets me is seeing people who are probably essentially decent folks at each other's throats.

I think we all already know the identities of those who are not decent.

I agree 100%, although I think we should be able to request a painless termination at any time.
