Kissinger said "I don't see we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people" about the election of Salvador Allende .

If there's one thing I don't believe the US needs in shaping foreign policy it's the advice of a devout interventionist.

For all the accusations that Democratic and Republican administrations have leveled against Iran since W's Presidency, US policy has to been so inept as to make Iran stronger.

Iraq was a bulwark against Iran and we took that away. A great deal of Iraq can now be considered greater Iran.

Iran has grown stronger in Syria.

Iran is now a force in Afghanistan and will have greater influence there than it ever has once US troops leave.

The US has no idea what it is doing in the Middle East as everything we have done has had an opposite effect.

It is time we rethought US policy.

I have difficulty believing much thought was given to it in the first place.
