Some version of this same, lame, dishonest, mass-immigration-pimping story has appeared every year for decades now. It is entirely normal for some percentage of crops to "rot in the fields". Crops are rarely ever 100% harvested.

I kept hearing what a wonderful job Obama did in rounding up illegal immigrants so he must be to blame for this.

Personally, people that expect to make money on illegal immigrants who have to take a loss because those illegal immigrants were caught and sent back are getting what they justly deserve.

So, those tens of millions of unemployed people in the Land Of Carnage are not flocking to California to pick fruit

No one is making them buy the produce if they don't want to pay higher prices. What they want is beside the point and irrelevant.

1) It's not about what the farmers are willing to pay. There are laws stating what one must pay. Now they ignore those laws and hire slave labor from Mexico.
2) Then eat fewer vegetables, grow some of your own, or buy from a local farmers market. Stop making excuses.
Well, I've been in the stores lately. I notice chicken flies off the shelves faster than been does. Something tells me that if beef prices ever went up 50%, alot of people will just stop buying beef.

And you cannot compare cars to food. You can't eat a car, #1. #2, cars don't have to be paid for in full right away. You can put payments on a car. And you can also buy used cars. Or, you can do what some people do. They take care of their car purchased years and years ago. Food is a non-durable good. You have to keep buying food. How often do you buy a car? How long can you make a car last?

I never said what the farmers did was right. I was saying "it is what it is". It is about what the farmers are willing to do. Many farmers will ignore laws. Why? The bottom line. Everything is all about the bottom line. Not once did I excuse what they did. I am saying that it is what it is. I never said not to do anything about it. I'm saying alot of people may not like illegal immigration, but will turn the other way when it comes to their wallet. I am saying this is all about money. The only way the big farmers will stop is when they can't make any money.

And the fact that you single out Mexico is a big part of why illegal immigration is a touchy subject. I watched a video clip about some illegals from Haiti working in the pepper fields of Florida.

You can't talk about picking crops in CA without talking about illegals from Mexico. The two things are tied together in a big way in that the vast majority of illegals who pick crops in this state are from Mexico, not Haiti nor any other country. This discussion is about CA, not Florida.

It's relative. Doesn't matter what country illegals hail from.
Could be from Mexico Canada Haiti England Germany, or in my brother in laws case, his cousin over stayed a visa from Poland and got deported

In NY there were Jamaicans Mexicans Guatemalans Haitians working to pick apples off orchards trees, pluck grapes for wine at the vineyards, work on horse ranches.

To solve the issue, ditch your goofy emissions laws, consult with John Deere Caterpillar Case/IH and have them develop implements to pick fruits and veggies.
Problem solved.

Here's one for cabbage.

I know they had combines and dump trucks for corn I used to see them on farms in upstate NY.

1 big time fee, maintenance intervals, fuel, and no more illegals or rotting produce plus more acres to be covered in a day...

Excellent post! I would much rather give tax breaks to farmers investing in equipment like this then spend more than $113 billion a year supporting illegal aliens who have anchor babies that we also support. Investing in the equipment in investing in our country!

Send them "home", all of them!

Agricultural visas are available: https://www.uscis.gov/working-united...ltural-workers

Maybe we should be confiscating the assets of these agricultural operations "hiring and harboring" illegal aliens as that is a crime.
