Here's an excerpt from an article posted by Chris Ladd today on his current blog "PoliticalOrphans.com.
Prior to leaving the Republican Party after it nominated Donald Trump, Ladd had a blog entitled "GOPLifer.com.
I'm not sure if the current article was posted before or after today's Trump tirade. When he left the Republican Party and resigned his position with the Illinois GOP, he stated that win or lose, Trump's nomination had fundamentally changed the Republican Party by making it a party of white nationalism, rather than the traditional party of Abraham Lincoln.

In his article today:

Quote:
You may have wondered what a college Republican actually looks like these days. With Trump’s approval rating among young people so small you have to use special equipment to measure it, who wants to be a Republican on a college campus? Well, we got our answer – Nazis.

The head of the College Republicans at Washington State University was outed as a participant in the Charlottesville rally. His response was just as crude and snide as you’d expect. Can’t wait to see his first job interviews.

Expect more of this. Leaders of College Republicans nationally pressed him to step down, but so what? Where are they going to find replacements that aren’t wearing that same stupid Nazi haircut? We are running out of room to pretend that there is anything left animating the right in the US besides white nationalism, especially among our youngest generation of voters.

Quote:
Republicans are standing on a very dangerous precipice. Everything present-day Republicans value, from market-based economics to abortion restrictions, is rapidly being subsumed under, and tainted by, a blanket of white nationalism. One more year of Donald Trump, and we may go through a generation in which no one can afford be an “out” Republican in any mainstream commercial or social setting outside the Deep South. The only Republicans will be retirees, welfare recipients, and the independently wealthy. Come to think of it, that’s not far from the coalition that supports the GOP today.
Gradually, then suddenly – Political Orphans

I agree with James above. Trump is really ****ing an opportunity to heal the nation after the murder of a young woman and the injuries to others after being run over by a white nationalist. His response to Charlottesville white nationalist Nazis has been abysmal.

Both sides had their riot gear on. The Nazi's had a permit and there would have been no trouble if the other group had not shown up and attacked first.

So if Nazis and the KKK and White Supremacists show up in your town, are you just going to let them spew their garbage and go about your business? Pat them on the head and consider it all done?

I'm not.

An ongoing theme at the Holocaust Museum is "Never again." And "never again" starts with each one of us. If the Germans had poured out of their homes and protested loudly against Hitler, and stood up for the Jews, and refused to stand by, fearfully, while he built his killing machine, maybe the Holocaust would never have happened.

If those disgusting Nazi pigs want a fight, they're gonna get it everywhere they go. Yes--they have a First Amendment right to have their say. But so does every person opposed to them. If they're gonna show up armed to spew hate, they're going to get it back in spades.

This isn't the first time the radical right has descended on Charlottesville. There was a May rally led by Richard Spencer (an alt-right white nationalist) and the July rally consisted of 50 members of the KKK. The local Republican view of all this:

Unfortunately, these groups are bragging that they aren't yet done with Charlottesville and will be back again - in even greater numbers.
I believe what you say.

But there are least two issues here.

First, there is the question - which I believe to be settled - of whether "haters" have been empowered by the Trump admin as well as the media they love and own (Bannon, etc.).

Secondly, it's easy to release a statement giving the "official" thumbs down to something....this is akin to Trumps statement after he was forced to make it.

If those same "Republicans" walk into the voting booth and pull the levers for people who they KNOW are going to push racial hatred (and let's not fool ourselves that southern dog whistle politics doesn't exist), aren't the words hollow? Maybe better than nothing, but actions speak louder than words.

I'm not saying the local GOP is the one that killed and injured those folks - they didn't. But at the same time, the way the world works is that you have to actively stand for certain right and things...or else they are going to get taken away.

As an example, I'd bet dollars to donuts that the local GOP loves legislation that stifles voting rights. So where is the line? They don't hate minorities, but they just don't want them to vote??

Great presser. The truth is finally spoken. Belittling the media was just the cherry on top.

I think rather than stating their likely end game, and scaring people away, we should keep it more digestible.

The Left is authoritarian and wants to, and has been, dilute the white American demographic that is stopping them from instituting permanent one party rule. This will result in authoritarianism and as everyone knows under authoritarianism the sky's the limit on misdeeds.

So when you hear the left condemn "white nationalism" what they are really condemning is the stopping them from obtaining permanent authoritarian one party rule.

Not only do these WN, nazi types lack any manhood, they lack the ability to take responsibility for their actions.

they had a permit

if they were not hurting anyone then we drive past them.

if Antifa hadn;t showed up they wouldn't have gotten any attention, wouldn't that have been better?
