Too late! That Atlanta is already gone. The problem is with those who want to dig it up and bring it back.

I'm all for recognizing and learning from history. I don't think we need to elevate the wrong side to hero status.
Exactly.

There is absolutely no reason to have statues of traitors in our public parks and courthouse lawn. Serves no good purpose to honor treason.

No worries about erasing history.

We will always have Andersonville, Gettysburg, Sherman's March to the Sea, ... If only we could erase these memories and start fresh.

Alas, we have to keep telling the story that was started 241 years ago.

What will be in the chapters we write?

BTW, you are wrong. The town in Germany my people are from has streets named Rommel, Goerring, Model....
Interesting. What is the name of this town?

This movement to remove these false idols has been around for a very very very very long time. This is not new. Nobody is erasing history, they just don't want to see these monuments of historical figures that did not have the best interests of ALL Americans just some.

Do you think the Germans shoulud have a Hitler statue?
Then lets remove them all.
Start with Mt. Rushmore and any monument to the other 10 US presidents that owned slaves. All traces of the trail of tears, little bighorn, and Manzanar historical site. These aren't history and they are false idols that offend and remind us of the horrors we committed against the Native Americans and Japanese Americans. As well lets remove any representation of any person associated with enacting or uphold US laws that oppressed and discriminated against women.

I guess you've never noticed that when White Supremacist gather they almost invariable carry both confederate and nazi flags - and then you ask how the two are connected - or why they are compared? Next time there is a gathering, why don't you ask them why - what the significance is? Meanwhile those of us who are not selectively deaf, dumb, and blind will carry on with knowledge of history and current events.

You guys fighting for this stupid statue, and others like it, fail to understand one simple thing:

Your side lost the war.

What's worse, your side lost the war of beliefs. The world is moving forward and if you don't adapt, you will be left behind. I know being a white male put you at the top of the socio-economic food chain for a long time, but things tend to get turned topsy turvy every once in a while. Please try to keep up. We can't prove the American experiment to be a success without you guys.

Yes, let's do that. Let's remove all statues, street names and references to FDR because he interred (jailed)Japanese Americans in CAMPS during WWII without any type of Due Process. Also, when were women given the right to vote? I know it wasn't 1776. So, should we remove any references to the America prior to that date? Maybe use 1964 as that's when the Civil Rights asked was passed.

Where does it end?

AS I mentioned before -- I have no sentimental or emotional attachment to symbols. Don't get me started on Mt. Rushmore. Who would even bother? Not me - -lol.

But I do think there is historical significance in places of history and there is where you go to remember the past...including the battlefields. But that isn't the same thing as a random statue in the middle of a community park. It just isn't.

This is the stupidest thing I've read this morning. LOL

So, we should just let racists and nazis gather and march? No response at all? Unfortunately, none of the nazis or racists died. Instead they couldn't tolerate the idea of a counterprotest, so one of em got triggered like the little snowflake he is and decided to plow a car into a peaceful demonstration. That's the kind of shenanigans people like them do. Not something the left has done. Have people taken advantage of leftist demonstrations to loot? Sure, but those guys are just opportunists. Not terrorists.

Honoring one's defeated enemies and especially their dead is a long standing practice. We see examples of this in Roman history, where fallen enemies are not reviled nor their cause ridiculed, nor their memories tarnished. Perhaps this is to appease the spirits or to not agitate the descendants into seeking revenge.
Whatever the reason, it is an accepted practice.

To attack them and their memory is considered uncivilized, uncultured, contemptible and / or ignoble. . . which, oddly enough, explains why the “Leftists” do so.
