So Columbus is headed down the memory hole. Now it's statues. Next it will be towns and cities. Columbus, Ohio. Columbia, South Carolina. Columbia, Md. Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia). Etc. Etc. All of these towns will have to change their names. And what will all the lefty PC students and professors say when their beloved ivy league college Columbia University is forced to change its' name? Sometimes you reap what you sow.

Destroying your own history is very sad.

Are these NYC statues next on the chopping block? | New York Post

New York Mayor de Blasio’s plan to root it out of the city’s monuments could spiral out of control, with the following statues supposedly being under consideration for removal due to demands from the left.

Thomas Jefferson ???

Benjamin Franklin ???

Christopher Columbus ???

Theodore Roosevelt ???

Henry Ward Beecher ???

Peter Stuyvesant ???

Fiorello La Guardia ???

Dr. J. Marion Sims ???

Netherland Monument ???

The Jungle Book -  Prospect Park Zoo, Brooklyn ???

Juan Pablo Duarte ???

Even Lincoln is not safe.
It's bizarre, isn't it? You don't see Egypt demanding to take down all the statues of Ramses, and he was far worse than any of these other people. What leader doesn't have good and bad points about them?

Exactly.

I don't think the UK is as bothered, partly because most of our history is more to do with religion and Protestant versus Catholic, even the English Civil War than slavery, indeed the British Aristocracy employed 'Domestic Servants' usually from the local area to serve in their houses, whilst those who worked in agriculture were not slaves, whilst many white working class people lived in appaling conditions during the Industrial Revolution and beyond.

There was some left winger in the Guardian suggesting Nelsons Column be torn down, because Nelson supported savery, however the Royal Navy actually helped stopped the slave trade and had a West Africa Squadron, which enforced the ban on slavery after 1807 when we banned the international trade.

BBC - History - British History in depth: The Royal Navy and the Battle to End Slavery

I really don't think we will be tearing down Nelsons Column on the say so of Afua Hirsch a writer, broadcaster, barrister and human rights development worker of Ghanaian, English and Jewish heritage who was born in Stavanger in Norway.

Toppling statues? Here's why Nelson's column should be next | Guardian

No one minds slavery museums, slavery statues or statues of people like Mandela, Ghandi, Martin Luther King etc, however no one should try to erase or revise our history or that of any nation. We may have looted cities under Empire and it wrong then and it is wrong now, as it is now, furthermore you risk inflaming some very powerful forces in the UK in relation to catholocism and protestantism, indeed there are people out there who would take up arms over a King Billy statue in places such as Northern Ireland, so I would leave the genie in the bottle if I were Afua Hirsch. As for Nelson, he's a Naval hero and helped defeat Napoleon, an evil tyrant if ever there was one.

GOOD! The film should make it easier to identify the culprits and bring them to justice as well as provide evidence against them.

So much for their lie that they simply want all of these statues and monuments to be in museums.

Liars.

Like we didn't know that already.

Actually, the media gave a WAY overblown focus on these nutjobs. Before this, nobody cared. I live in Virginia/DC and I still don't care about the statues at all.

This is coming from the crazy media making people go crazy over nothing. You know how small these little white supremacist groups are?

Not to mention the ancient Egyptians used slave labor like mad (as have many other societies).
Why do folks only care about the slaves held by white folk in Western society?

These violent entitled freaks are just using "slavery" as an excuse to go wild.
Kind of disrespectful to the memory of the enslaved; using their plight to promote some nutty agenda.

Couple of things to note. First the monument didn't look in that great a shape to begin with so obviously no one really cared about it. Also, CC never set foot in N America, what is the monument there for? I know righties are so in love with history, I thought you'd have known that.
