This is a tough one. There's a straight 50% chance that any claims of racial attacks is bogus unless its caught on tape or there are bystanders and witnesses. But his injuries were real and serious. But there's that stupid auto erotic asphyxiation game that kids do and many have ended up strangling themselves. So have adults. The kids knew him so the name calling could have been non racist, especially if any of the other kids were African American.
Its early in the case and there isn't much information made public so we'll have to wait and see. If those kids assaulted that boy then they should have the book thrown at them.
But the MSM reported it so we'll have to wait to verify it with online sources.
maybe you're right. probably would have been better off in current events.
i am just disappointed in some comments in here. we are talking about an 8 year old boy being hung from a tree for crying out loud. i don't know why i am surprised by some responses, but i am.
sigh...
Or are we. According to grandma (who did NOT witness this) the boys were putting a rope around their necks (plural) her grandson was pushed off the table with the rope around his neck. According to mom (who did NOT witness this) a group of white teens tried to hang her son from a tree.
Yes the injuries are real but we dont know exactly how he got them. The incident is still under investigation. Once the authorities have investigated I hope those guilty are punished accordingly.

So following this it COULD have been joking around gone bad. As I said upthread, way too many people jumping to way too many conclusions with the slimmest of information to go on.
In my opinion it's ONLY because it's a chiillllld so we must have a knee jerk response and immediately believe the worst of whatever the stories might be...

It could have been but regardless the other kids should have helped. But that lack of empathy, or doing the right thing is alluding us as as society. You are right at this point the public really doesn't know exactly what happened.
An 8-year old isn't exactly a full grown man. If the kid is positioned on their backside and the assailant is standing on or on the other side of the table, it sounds possible.
I mean, there are pictures of the kid's throat and neck, but don't let that stop you.

I mean, there's many different ways and 2-3 stories on how that could/did happen but don't let that stop you in declaring guilt...

Don't let it stop us from what, thinking? Yes the boy has a mark on his neck. But his story about how it got there makes little sense.

All they would have to do is have the kid stand on the edge of the table, put the noose around his neck and then go to the other end and tip the table so it's lower than his feet.
And I'm saying this knowing full well that it sounds like I've either done such a thing or considered doing such a thing. NEGATIVE to both!
I've never understood kids who could be cruel. Growing up I was quiet, shy, and gentle. Perhaps it takes a sociopathic ringleader or something.
The pictures are heartbreaking, I just feel sad that a child had to experience such ugly violence.
