It could and should be. They can rip us off because govt rules, regs and limits on market competition. The same way guv limits the supply of docs on behalf of the AMA.

No, they can rip you off because you are clueless about what you need and at the mercy of insurance corporations and health care providers that will rip you off and leave you economically stranded. You think you can shop around for cancer treatments or brain surgery when you get hit by a rock like its some phone you are buying? And yes, powerful entities will exploit their market power using any means possible. The closest to a free market health care system in the world is probably the jungles of the Congo. Just pay as you go to the local witch doctor.

Conventional cancer treatments are not typically ripping off patients. Because the expense is so huge it takes medical insurance to pay for almost all patients. So a million dollar treatment is reimbursed at the hundreds of thousands level by the carrier. Due to much less asymmetry of information the carriers are better with these negotiations and payments than consumer/patients.

Unconventional or unapproved cancer treatments may be a rip off.

What more typically happens these days, is that your HC carrier will have a network of approved docs and cancer centers. So if not emergent, one can do research on the possibilities and shop. But instead of cost, one is usually more concerned with a comparison of treatment outcomes. And convenience if the center is afar.

Obama had the right idea by at least trying to do something with the ACA it helped a lot of people but it also hurt others. No health care plan will be perfect ACA would be better if they fixed the problems that it has. Trump doesn't have a plan never did. The left doesn't have a plan either and neither one of them can be trusted to come up with one. Bernie's plan is a bit radical to be sure but it's something of a start. Which is more then we have from anyone else.

Why do you believe politicians can solve your health concerns?

Because it's happened in many, many countries with UHC. Tommy Douglas, a Canadian politician, is remembered to this day because of his vision.

We were one of those people that the ACA didn't help at all. So your picking a fight where there is none.

All I said was Bernie's plan might be a start.

No, people cant make rational decisions regarding this. One thing of course is when people are rushed to the nearest hospital in an emergency, ripping off the patient. Another is that people dont have the medical knowledge and necessary information needed to "shop" for brain surgery or whatever the patient thinks he or she needs. Its absurd.
