It was said once a week in grade school, but I didn't usually recite along because although I've always had an appropriate amount of respect for the country and gratitude for many of the people in it, I found the idea of mindlessly reciting the pledge in school too bizarre to just go along with willy-nilly. Though after 9/11, I did recite it, in order to pay respects to the victims and their loved ones. As well as other occasions that I felt warranted it.
At least half of the rest of the class didn't bother either...many of them didn't even bother to stand or even stop what they were doing. Half the time, even the teacher didn't bother.
After that though, I've never been in a situation where I had to recite it. I barely even remember the words to it now.
We said it in grade school. I've never said it since, though it was instrumental in helping me remember my right from my left in kindergarten.
It's a nice pledge. I like it a lot better than our Anthem. America The Beautiful would have been a better choice for that, imho. It ended up being political though, so we have an Anthem that is difficult to sing because it was originally intended as a poem. It also mentions bombs.
Oh those poor, poor children. I can see them cringe everytime you told jokes.
It stopped in Jr High for me. We stopped having a 15 minute home class and went straight to our first period classes.
I think the pledge stopped in Jr. High for me, too. It's been so long ago I can't remember for sure; it may have stopped before Jr. High in the 6th grade.
I have no probs with the pledge; I think its a good device for building patriotism in our children, but that's about it. Reciting it wouldn't ever make any adult who's not patriotic change.
Kindergarten I guess. I stopped saying it once I understood what it meant I don't believe one should have to say something similar unless you know what it means. Some goes for religion of any sorts.
I get up and make my wife and our dogs say the pledge. Then we salute the portraits of dear leaders trump, Ryan, McConnell, pelosi and Schumer and thank them for giving us food, jobs and good health.
Ah, that's nuthin' ! Just try to get a CAT to do it !
I used to attend Lions Club events, and we'd say the Pledge then. I never said the "under god" part. That was added later, anyway, during the '50s McCarthy era.
