At the same time, we need to address the high costs of healthcare and pharma. They are both way too high. Otherwise, the people are being taxed more and doctors, hospitals and pharma reap record profits from everyone in the US having medical insurance coverage. And that's not right.
If healthcare and medicines weren't so expensive, then we'd not need to have insurance. There was a time when it was possible for an individual to be able to afford to pay for their healthcare expenses out of pocket.
Yeah, back in the days before modern medicine. Back when we barely had xrays. When we didn't have MRIs or catscans and other expensive diagnostic tools. Back when there was no such thing as heart surgery, no chemotherapy or radiation. Not too many people could afford to pay for the things medicine offers today. And no, if someone refuses to buy insurance, the rest of us are NOT going to pay for your entire treatment.
Diagnosis and treatment are expensive. I do agree that prescription medicine prices are out of control and need to be reeled in.
Just implement Medicare for all and be done with it. And make it voluntary. That would satisfy everyone (I think).
Of course, include the provision that if you have some kind of medical problem and don't have some form of health insurance, when you run out of money you go home.
I support single payer but it doesn't work in big mass melting pot countries with a large welfare class... It works better in small homogenous nations with strict immigration controls like Norway, Switzerland, etc.
Can't support giving 10-20% of the population free health care and housing for life for whatever reason they have. Plus its not fair... Why should I have to work so less responsible people can live for free? I'm a selfish bleep. Survival of the fittest. Bring in 5 million refugees and give em all on demand ER service? Allow illegal Mexicans to use our ERs to give birth.... Until we have free energy and robots to do all our work no thanks.
Depends on how you want to pay for it. A federal consumption tax would be a possible way to go in the USA.
Bernie Sanders' 'Medicare For All' Bill: Here's What It Would Do : NPR
"Medicare for All"? Not quite. Sanders calls his plan "Medicare for All," but that's more of a handy slogan than reality, as this plan would greatly expand Medicare and overhaul it
In a 2016 report on his presidential campaign's "Medicare for All" plan, the Urban Institute (left wing think tank) estimated that the plan would cost $32 trillion over 10 years, or 3.2 trillion per year (with costs going up with inflation every year)

If you knew what you are talking about, you would know that the Swiss don't have single payer. It would be cheaper, no question, but they do run the insurance scheme. Except that it is regulated to the gills (the only way to make it work)

Another round of BS. Medicare is way leaner than private insurance. It would cost an astronomical amount to have somebody covered at 65+ by private insurance. So try again.
No. We just beat up white people and steal all of their taxes.
Well, according to the conservative mantra anyway.
Too bad I can't rep you just yet
