Trump has tweeted attacks on Cruz’s leadership, and the president has repeatedly said that stories highlighting the slow response to the crisis are fake news.
That view was echoed, if in a more subtle way, by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s administrator on Monday after he flew to the island and, as he told reporters, saw signs of civic vibrancy in San Juan. William “Brock” Long said he managed to get a cellphone signal when he was 20 minutes outside the capital and heading to a remote area

Yup. The winds were so strong and sustained it was like getting hit by an A-bomb. And then the storm surges flooded the wreckage and washed it around, blocking all the streets in cities and covering the highways with downed trees and wreckage. The highways were torn up by the winds, and the flooding washed out the loosened pavement.
Imagine Houston with no intact homes and no electricity at all, and you have Puerto Rico. The island's size is about 2 1/2 times larger than Houston in square miles; it's not a large island.
With a complete loss of electricity, there is no way to pump fresh water, fuel, or use any tools that require it. There is a lack of trucks due to storm destruction, so transporting food, water and fuel is very difficult. Fresh water that's above ground was contaminated by the flooding. With no power, there's no communication.
The territory includes 2 smaller islands off of Puerto Rico, and both are in even worse shape. Both are inhabited.
The last time Puerto Rico was hit by a hurricane head on was 90 years ago.
The greedy self serving union truck drivers that are PR citizens themselves didn't help matters since they wouldn't transport the goods until they got higher pay. You can't make this crap up, looking for a jackpot while everyone is suffering.
Everything about it was sad especially the call from the female police officer. I don't normally get shook up... but you could hear the pain in her voice at the mayor and governors handling or lack thereof...
More ignorance. There were about 3 or 4 random areas where people could get service in St. Thomas after Irma. However, the issue was being able to reach those areas. Clearly the same is true for Puerto Rico.
The President and FEMA director are being escorted to these areas and ensured access to services that the average citizen cannot reach.
Of course, you can see signs of civic vibrancy because people are going to try to help each other. But the people are in serious need. People aren't sick or dying.
My heart goes out to Puerto Ricans. Virgin Islanders, though seemingly somewhat forgotten now, are with them in all of this.

It sounds to me Trump DID tell the truth about Puerto Rico.
Every day things get better and better. How things were 5 days ago isn't a comparison to how things were 1 day ago because progress was made during those 4 days. It will be better tomorrow than it was today.
Power is still out for 93% of the island. That's an improvement though, because it was 95% the other day. This means a few more got power back. Progress - one day at a time.
Social media worked and got this young man the supplies he needs. But I'm sure he isn't the only fighting for his life.
The power grid was down and in need of major repairs long before these 2 hurricanes hit. You cannot blame Trump for decades of the ruling classes in PR's, neglect.
Like Houston, like Florida. The communities are getting it together, or they should be the first line of help and making it happen.
Instead a false sense of security has been placed upon the people of PR, by their ruling classes.
I'm sure a hammer can be found in the rubble someplace.
I'd have a mansion built from everyones scrap lumber, done by the end of the week, clean water and hunting food in the mountains to maintain. Those people have been coddled for too long with corruption & broken promises to stay in power.
Trump is the first and only American President to ever help PR after a hurricane.
