The book in question is a dystopian young adult novel about an America where Muslims are sent to internment camps. SJWs found the book "problematic" as it had a white narrator and have convinced Kirkus to pull its favorable review of the novel.
I find it problematic because Muslims aren't sent to camps in western countries. The truth is, they self-segregate and create "no-go zones" where non-Muslims are not allowed.
Crickets from the social justice warriors on that, as well as rapist refugees, the endless stream of terrorist attacks, the demands for Sharia law, the grooming gangs, the deplorable treatment of women, etc.
So now white people aren't allowed to put their own as the main character of a book?
If I were the author of this book, I would find out who got my deal ruined and go beat his ass into the ground.
"Social Justice Warrior} (n.): Someone who doesn't like the result of "equal justice under the law", and wants courts to alter their rulings to favor whatever group they feel should receive largesse this week instead.
Such behavior is typical of Third World countries, and courts where bribery and judge-shopping are common.
The publishing world has been running to the left for several years, especially when it comes to fiction. A few of my favorite authors have been attacked and vilified because they aren't "politically correct" in their real world lives, which in this case means that they openly disagreed with liberalism.
If you want to entertain yourself, look into the Sad Puppies campaign where several high selling authors and their fans basically got together and gave the collective finger to the Hugo Awards. You could hear the mainstream authors' heads exploding the whole time. It was one instance where I truly enjoyed having a part in shutting down the social justice warrior crowd.
When I was a kid, liberals were rightly appalled by the "moral majority" wanting to censor "offensive" books. There was a list of frequently challenged books, and it was full of classics. The left has now become what it once abhorred.
Unless they have a gun to their head, nobody is forcing anyone to do anything.
If you can't stand up for your convictions then maybe they don't deserve to be defended.
