Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) on Friday vetoed a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana, nearly a year after residents voted to set up a system to sell and regulate the drug.

“The dangers of legalizing marijuana and normalizing its use in our society cannot be understated,” LePage wrote. “Sending a message, especially to our young people, that some drugs that are still illegal under federal law are now sanctioned by the state may have unintended and grave consequences.”

The governor of Maine has no respect for the will of the people, apparently.

The people cannot legalize a criminal act. MJ is illegal for a reason, it's another poison.

From what I've read, he has no particular respect for anyone.

?????? People vote all the time on what should be legal.

Nothing about marijuana in either the constitution or the bible. Car theft isn't mentioned either.

Just curious, how do you think laws come into being? We find them under rosebushes? Or what?

Alcohol is even much more poisonous. Please explain why downing alcohol isn't a criminal act.
