While the USA fiddled Kim made thousands of nuclear warheads and tens of thousands of real and dummy missiles to launch at the USA one day. In that supposed day Kim, without warning and after perfecting pin-point accuracy in the delivery systems of the missiles, suddenly launched hundreds of missiles with live warheads and thousands of dummy ones to deflect our defense system at all the major cities in the USA. America fell in one day. Yes, it retaliated but Kim had already put hardened protective bunkers in place deep underground for his armies and government along with vast stores of water and food. They were protected. Kim's plan all along was for he and China to share what was left of America. That is why China constantly told our president they would help to stop Kim but secretly helped him.

Is such a scenario likely to play out? How could we stop it? Kim announced on public TV he now has missiles that will reach every corner of the USA. All he has to do is make enough of them and he seems bent on doing just that.

My assumption is that his goal is to maintain control of N. Korea, and by threatening the U.S., he creates an 'enemy' that N. Koreans will unite against.

If Kim begins to launch an attack on the U.S., then North Korea will be decimated more quickly than anyone can say “rocket man.”

No, because he knows he could never build enough offensive capabilities to kill us all and our allies or defense to stop our counter attack. He just wants to maintain power. He saw what happens to non-nuclear states that **** off the U.S. (they get invaded or the U.S. supports the "resistance" with weapons and training) and doesn't want that to happen to him.

Typical dictator stuff - focus on the evil USA out to destroy noble, hard-working N Korea so you don't think about the massive domestic problems in front of you - same MO in Iran and Venezuela and a few others.

NK is as much a threat to the US as Iraq was which is no threat.

We would completely annihilate the entire country if Kim attacked us with missiles, and Kim knows it. He's crazy, but I don't think he's an idiot. The last thing a narcissist like Un wants is to die unnecessarily.

Kim is all talk, he has no intention of ever launching any missiles.

Perhaps, but they're a big threat to our allies, Japan and South Korea.

It's deterrence. It isn't like the US doesn't have hardened bunkers and secret protective silos either.

The only thing this is going to do is up the ante for the next gen of super weapons (which will be AI). The US is far ahead of NK in terms of AI research and development. I only hope to be dead by then when militarized AI comes around. Nuclear weapons and deterrence are so 1940s and 50s. It is only a matter of time until AI controlled nuclear missile defense gets built that will be able to detect and respond to a threat of an incoming nuclear attack at the speed of light rather than a human trying to pick up on it and make decisions. AI could protect oceans from from submarine attacks by deploying millions of underwater drones controlled by a central intelligent unit (and could do the same for the skies).

The only problem is that once this type of technology gets released into the world it'll alter the balance of deterrence and will spook other countries into rushing to develop AI. Who knows what can of worms it'll unleash on the planet and whether or not humans could control something smarter than all humans put together. One mistake could be fatal.

I think this will just hasten the development of nuclear attack defense.
