Last month, neighbourhood advocates went public with fears that a “serial killer” was targeting Black women and girls after an alleged four murders and three kidnappings occurred in the span of weeks.
At the time, Kansas City Police said the claims were “completely unfounded.”
Pretty sad to see how these warning were dismissed.
T.J. escaped captivity from the basement of a home in Excelsior Springs, a neighbourhood of Kansas City, on the morning of Oct. 7 after being imprisoned for about a month. She was found still wearing a metal collar locked with a padlock that police had to remove. She also had duct tape wrapped around her neck and was wearing latex lingerie.
Jeezus, this poor lady. That is horrific! No one should suffer through that. Maybe the cops can pop their heads out of their backsides and take this seriously now.

This is such an odd story. The police are STILL saying there's no basis in fact to support the allegations that several women have gone missing from Prospect Avenue. It's not clear this woman, who was captive for a month, was ever reported missing herself.
They can find no evidence, at this time, to corroborate the others she states "didn't make it out".
Reading between the lines - are these women sex workers, and not being reported missing when they disappear, so police have nothing to go on to verify the street rumors?

Awful.
Prospect has been a place for cheap, black prostitutes for at least 50 years. So many it would be difficult to notice a few missing. When I drove through that area to go to work, there were dozens.The police quit making arrests because they were just released.
T.J. told police she had been whipped and raped repeatedly by her captor. She managed to escape when Haslett left the house to drop his child off at school.
Just when you think the depravity can't get any worse. As horrific as what happened to T.J. is, what makes the situation even worse is that a school-aged child was in the house when all this was happening. How much did the child see or hear or smell? What did the child know? To find out that your own father is doing these horrible things . . . I can't even imagine.
I suspect that this scumbag targeted prostitutes precisely because so many of them are runaways or outcasts with no ties to the community, so they're much less likely to be reported missing. I don't know if it can be said that the police should have done more, but if any given person is not known to be missing, it's that much harder to launch a search for them.
