In all seriousness, I wouldn't worry. Legally, it'd be nearly impossible for a dictatorship to arise.
Exactly. We're all safe as long as everyone plays by the rules. Laws and constitutional protections only work if the citizenry accepts them as restrictions on their behavior. A dictatorship (or authoritarian government by any other name) won't arise overnight, this is true. It's the gradual chipping away of the American democratic protections under law that we have to worry about. It starts with an undermining of the free press, and attacks on freedom of speech; changing of libel laws, changing of election laws, and so on. Pack the courts with judges that are willing to subvert the intent of the founding fathers and you will be able to pass any laws that you want. Started in earnest with the Patriot Act, went a little further with Citizens United and the eradication of Net Neutrality; a change to the libel laws would be a even bigger move in that direction.
As I said earlier today in another thread, I really wish President Trump would stop acknowledging the media. Calling the networks and newspapers or networks out by name, "fake news," "dishonest media," etc. In my opinion, it only empowers them and encourages them to continue to report anything that could possibly make him look bad, even if untrue.
In a sense, the fake news media is trolling the president, and him constantly talking about it fuels their fire.

This guy knows and cares nothing of the principles that kept this a free and balanced society for the last 240 years. Given his extreme narcissism and unscrupulous behavior, there is no doubt in my mind that this ****head wants to govern like a dictator, if only he could defeat the checks and balances codified into our way of government. And thing is, if people don't keep a sharp eye and care enough, he will try to do it...and might succeed.
And the thing is, his supporters will go along and happily criminalize free speech - anything to keep Dear Leader pampered and happy.

There is a big difference in criticizing someones actions and totally different to tell lies to defame someones character. Slander and libel, should have heavy penalties. People have been harmed and even killed, by the people they tell lies about.
We expect posts like this from Socialist Left Wing Liberals who want a Communist Nation with a phony "Free" Election filled with voters that are Illegal Immigrants and or Brainwashed Left Wing "want to be" Communists. That's what we expected.
Look, Obama was no saint. But he was smeared as damn near everything you can think of... that he's a gay, that Michelle is a trans man, that he's a Muslin, that he's a Communist, that he's not even American.
Did he ever kick up the idea that he needs to tweak the laws so that he can muzzle his critics? Did he even go on Twitter every night and duke it out with them?
You got the "No Saint" part right but you really went way off on the rest of it. Its a "Fact" that he supported Hillary who made a deal with Bernie who himself says he is a Socialist, which as a mild word for Communist. Obama not only "tweaked" the Law but down right broke the Laws when he weaponized the FBI and the Justice Department to work against Trump in the elections. That's all coming out day by day, and we are not getting all of it yet. Hillary would have buried all the evidence. Obama did not have to go to Twitter, He had the "FAKE News Media" tweeting on TV and Newspapers all over the Nation. Its a shame you have your head so far out in Left field, you can't even make an argument based on facts, and have to resort to the same old Left Wing smoke and mirrors. The fact remains that the Liberal Agenda is to make a "Socialist States of America" out of our Nation and have farce elections with Illegal Aliens and Immigrants from anywhere as a loyal voting base. That's it. You have no argument to oppose those facts.
Trump just sends a DM (hidden tweet) to Putin and asks him anything and everything. Putin knows how to accomplish all this stuff.
I don't feel as sorry for Trump as I do for those who sold out to him. He was ruined from birth and there is no redemption possible IMHO. But many smaller figures are going to go down in history as those who tried to make him appear normal...
