The FBI said Wednesday it has “grave concerns” about the classified memo put together by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, and said it includes "material omissions of fact."
“The FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it,” the agency said Wednesday. “As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”
Notice what Wray/FBI has said here - he is not saying the Memo is not true, he is saying it DOES NOT CONTAIN additional "facts". The solution appears pretty simple - Wray can ADD his extra "facts" that he believes the Memo does not contain.
What might these "facts" be?? I think the "facts" that WrayFBI is talking about are that -- "we won't do these things anymore and we have promised the FISA Court that we won't do them anymore. His view is "let's just forget the past and we will be good in the future."
It's a long slog to get through all this Legalese - I read it twice. They cite rulings by the Court going back years to point out what Rules should have been followed. Page 82 tells us that the in the space of 6 months - November 1, 2015 to May 1, 2016 -- Non-compliance with Rules was 85%. Abuse was in the FBI, CIA and National Terrorism Center under the direction of James Clapper, DNI. They were apparently building illegal Repositories of Data on US Citizens and lying to the FISA Court about what they were doing. Mike Rogers of the NSA instituted an OIG review and found what was going on. This is probably what kicked off the DOJ Inspector General Investigation of the FBI.
The FBI & the DOJ are correct - Sunshine on what certain divisions within their Organization have been doing is likely to erode confidence in their Agencies. They think they have "fixed" it, so we should just ignore all this and "move on". I doesn't work that way - it's kinda like the Bank Robber using a defense of "I promise not to Rob anymore Banks, so we need to ignore the Banks I robbed in the past."
“The FBI is intimately familiar with ‘material omissions’ with respect to their presentations to both Congress and the courts, and they are welcome to make public, to the greatest extent possible, all the information they have on these abuses,” Nunes said.
Notice that part about "presentations" (ie Testimony under Oath) to the FISA Court AND the US Congress.
Law has to mean something - "I won't do it again, so let's just forget it" is NOT enough.
The only thing the FBI was concerned about, was revealing the sources(people involved) and how they collect their dirt(violate the 4th amendment).
The FBI and the CIA for that matter are worried this will end the NSA's database collection of our privacy, for evil and nefarious reasons.
We said, it would be used like this in the wrong hands, and the very next administration, was those wrong hands.
I hope there will be little to no redactions, but I wouldn't be at all surprised that the names have been redacted, that's pretty common.
It may not be too hard to fill in the blanks with the names, we already have a pretty good idea who was involved.
Would that not be basically the same thing released last March that is all blacked out?
