People are upset because they have to pay someone a sustainable wage to watch their kids? Now granted with the way we have treated the economy wages have stagnated for many but I doubt any of those complaining turn down a raise. Others generally have to pay a higher cost for their raises also.

If there is such a long list it would seem to me that the opportunity is there for someone to step in and open more day care centers.

Advertise on Craigslist. "Wanted, baby sitter for a 3 and 4 year old. $7.00 an hour with lunch furnished".

What is a "sustainable wage"? Who determines that? Where do you people think up this stuff?

The minimum wage here is $7.25

No one pays $7.25 an hour.
Just to get someone to fill out an employment application, starting wages must be in the $10-$13 and hour.
Illegal aliens won't work for less than $100 a day. That's saying something.

Supply and demand dictates going rates and what the market will bare. Government getting involved in the free market to perform price fixing, messes the balance up and you see skyrocketing prices, to make up for the additional cost. The market may not be able to bare the increase and job losses are the consequence.

Well if the costs skyrocketed it suggest they were paying their staff really poorly. Quality care does not come cheap.

And your point?
So will I. But I'm not blaming any party for cost of living increases. Every time we take a breath our expenses rise: going out to eat, buying a car, rent, cell phone bill, utility bills, car gas, medical insurance, etc. . What doesn't change? Wages. They have remained essentially flat since the 1980s. And this applies to people who are not parents as well. We can only squeeze blood from a turnip so much. Then the parents are blamed for "not budgeting well enough"

People want someone else to do the background checks. Provide a safe environment. Always have someone available (no calling off sick), etc etc etc but still pay like they would the neighbors teen daughter.

Well, parents have to suffer 5 years of financial pain from daycare costs until their children are old enough to go to a public school, which is free.

It isn't free but that is another matter.

Correct. It's all about the here and now, whatever feels good, and whatever brings in the most votes.

My family embraced the feminist movement. We are 100% supportive of females doing whatever they want and are qualified to do.

But, it was clear early on that the most significant result was business getting 2 workers for the price of one. Add on that our culture told kids they would never amount to anything without a college degree.

What seemed like a good idea at the time has resulted in nobody is tending to the kids. Auntie and Grandma are at work, too.

Do you really want to people teaching your kids to qualify for food stamps? That is the case at some high dollar places.
