Just like the doom, and gloom promised by the dems about the tax cuts, their promises of a devastated solar industry are completely unfounded.
President Donald Trump’s recent decision to apply tariffs on imported solar panels was met with strong reaction in Washington, reaction that was very much divided along political lines. But the initial evidence shows that the tariff is working.
No fewer than nine companies have announced manufacturing expansion plans in the U.S. market in the past several weeks, all of them motivated partly by the tariffs. The biggest is JinkoSolar, a Chinese manufacturer that said it is committing $410 million to build a plant in Jacksonville, Florida, that will employ 800 workers.
Equally exciting, two American-owned companies, SolarTech Universal and Solaria, are planning to expand U.S. production in the coming months. The planned expansions demonstrate that effective tariffs can work, giving new life to a struggling American industry and strengthening the economy.
Basically everything said about Trump by his opponents has been 100% wrong:
- If Trump is elected, the stock market will crash (this one cost me money as I missed the first 2 days of the Trump bump)
- If this tax plan passes, it's Armageddon
- Tariff on solar will cost a million US jobs

I’m all for free markets in this country, but I dont see a need for free markets that involve third world countries. That is just a race to the bottom for the first world countries. We dont need to equalize our economy with theirs. Hasn’t the last 30 years taught us anything? The standard of living has gone up tremendously in China, as our standard of living has gone down. How is that good for America?
Prices go up, but more people here will have good jobs, so they can pay a little more. No big deal.

Paying a few more bucks for American made products that are made here is the right thing to do. BTW, welfare recipients aren't getting solar panels.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., April 17— President Reagan, asserting that he was trying ''to enforce the principles of free and fair trade,'' imposed a 100 percent tariff today on some Japanese-made computers, television sets and power tools.
Actually it is certain that the Trump tariffs will increase production of solar panels in the US. That does not however imply it will be a net positive. The ability to sell roof top solar has been heavily damaged by the resultant price increases. And we may in the end lose jobs over the tariffs.
It also badly impacts the potential roof top customer. That customer is already in trouble do to the cost of sales in the roof top industry. Basically a roof top customer pays twice what a utility pays for the same panels. And this further damages the competitiveness of the roof top suppliers.
What we really needed was legislation and customs that prevented Apple and the storage and semiconductor industry from transferring US technology to outside the US. But we allowed it and it was done because the companies saw ways to maintain more of their profits by moving operations out of the US. Now we will have to compete with an Asian machine that we built.
Hopefully the Trump tariffs help. But I would not bet on it.
