Overall birthrates in the United States have been declining for years, reaching a record low in 2016, according to National Bureau of Health Statistics, and provisional data suggests a new low for 2017.
But, among women over 40, the birthrate has increased. Women ages 40 to 44 had a 4 percent increase in birthrate and there was also a slight birthrate increase in of .1 percent among women between 45 and 49 years old.
I wouldn't even consider it. Things can happen naturally sometimes but I'm not liking all the medical intervention that's going into forcing conceptions where conception doesn't want to happen.
It's too bad that our medical technology gets sidelined into vanity projects instead of focusing on disease and serious health issues.
It’s not until age 50 that that the average American has anything resembling economic security. So it’s no wonder that people are waiting until late in life to have kids.
I think it's a bad idea. Too much chance of the kid ending up a caregiver just as they are trying to get established in their own life. It's selfish. If someone that age wants a child, there are plenty of older children in the foster care system who desperately need permanent homes.
^^^^BRAVO! Be doing a kid already here a big favor.

Agree. As a kid I lost my 51 year old mom at 12 and my dad was gone by the time I hit 32. 95% of my friends still had both parents.
I still could of used their wisdom at that young age. Never mind having older parent than my friends growing up. I remember dad getting me a car and the sales rep calling him my grandpa. Which then made my dad feel bad and me having to dance around the issue saying people always guess me a lot younger for days. To make my dad feel better. Why should I be put in this spot.
Selfish and a bad idea. There is more advantages having children when one is young than money. Money isn't the answer to everything. Time with your family is.

?. the article did not discuss women 50 and beyond except for one doctor.

Between 45 and 50 years old a .1% increase.
I have been seeing a trend of couples having children later.
A couple here at work had their first at 41(him) and 39 (her) then had twins. Another woman at work father was in his 50's when she and her 2 siblings were born. My nephew just had his first at 37. My mother was 40 when my little brother was born in 1970. I just ran into an ex co worker who just had a child at 40.
I think there are pros and cons to having children both early in life and later in life.
