America was once a country that produced wealth and exported it all over the world . We had a trade surplus and were able to retain assets . Now, America is broke . The world exports all their products here tax free to get consumed by Americans on a line of credit, making themselves richer......isnt it about time to put a stop to the gutting and theft of American wealth?

Uh, you don't get it. If Electrolux wants to cancel an appliance plant, which would have made appliances for the US market, because of high steel costs due to Trump's tariffs, then Hoover, Whirlpool, GE or any other American company will face the exact same conditions and circumstances and would make the exact same decision.

Critical thinking is critical.

He already has the basic "guns and god" PA vote. The steel plants have mostly all been torn down or are completely abandoned and rusted out.

If new mills are built they are "micro-mills" which are largely automated...

So the question becomes "how stupid are the voters?". The answer was given by a famous pundit many moons ago "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people"

The longer quote is:
“No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.â€

I guess that still stands! Trump can even brag that he loves the uneducated and they, instead of becoming educated, take great joy in loving him back and not caring they are partners to the destruction of our Republic.

Or one could just look at the white house to figure out how stupid voters are?

If you want to do that, look at the top .1% of Americans who are stealing all of our money.

The stats and charts are clear. There is plenty of money (GDP). The only difference from years ago is where that money ends up - in the pockets of the VERY wealthy as compared to the average Joe.

No amount of tariffs are going to change that. An American company (or at least most of them) are going to pay workers as little as humanly possible and give them as few benefits as they can. That is capitalism....

Personally, I think many foreign companies will treat American workers better. Terrible...but true. You see, America is based on the almighty buck. Some other civilized countries run their economies for the good of the WHOLE of the people. Big difference.

BTW, our own gubment has heavily subsidized many of our industries for a long time. Boeing almost went broke a couple of times...saved by Big Gubment.

How would we like it if the rest of the world decided to slap big tariffs on Boeing airliners?

If Trump's tariffs go through as planned, you can be sure there will be more announcements like this.

Electrolux halts $250 million project in Springfield after Trump's tariff announcement
uhm...

let's see... a company opening a manufacturing plant IN THE USA, would not have to pay an import tariff

so them putting a halt to a Tennessee plant.... not because of import tariffs... there is another reason behind this....

Did you even read the article in the link? They're not going ahead with the plan because they think the price of AMERICAN steel is going to rise significantly after the tariffs go in.

From the article:

"Unfortunately, this decision gives foreign appliance manufacturers a cost advantage that is hard to compete against," Electrolux spokesperson Eloise Hale said in a statement to USA TODAY NETWORK - Tennessee.

All of the carbon steel the company uses in its U.S. manufacturing plants comes from American steel mills, Hale said.

In a statement to Reuters, Daniel Frykholm, another company spokesperson, said executives believed the tariffs could "cause a pretty significant increase in the price of steel on the U.S. market," and "could damage the overall competitiveness of (Electrolux's) operations in the U.S."

Uh, YES they would have to pay an import tariff - the tariffs for both the US and Swedish companies are on the steel they BOTH would need to manufacture the appliances at said plant! In case you hadn't been paying attention, this news is about Trump's proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum. Both of which are used in MANY products made in the US. Such as appliances.
