What tariffs?? Nothing's been done. Talk talk talk. Is cheap cheap cheap.

The very ones that Century Aluminum and US Steel cited as being the reasons they were re-opening plants and creating new jobs.

Those Trump tariffs.

It's going to be a mixed bag of good and bad with the proposed tariffs.

For steel producers - it is good.

For steel consumers - it will be bad.

The goal is clamping down on unfair steel trade primarily from China. Hopefully any pain will be short term.

So, on the one hand, a mainly idle aluminum plant in Kentucky will add 300 new jobs (very good).

However, the Kentucky bourbon industry has 15,000 to 17,000 employers in the state, with some worried that if the EU imposes a tariff on bourbon, it will hurt that industry:

Would retaliatory bourbon tariffs hurt signature Ky. industry?

What is the old saying? Unable to see the forest due to the trees?

I guess that if Mr. Trump had "Trump Bourbon" he would be more concerned.
Pros outweigh the cons here. Tariffs put China on notice to stop flooding the markets.

We must be reasonable: while President Trump has announced his intention to impose such tariffs, they have not been implemented.

Indeed, Wilbur Ross said, this morning, that the President is 'flexible' in the idea of excluding Canada and Mexico:

As noted elsewhere, Canada and Mexico are our main source of steel and aluminum.

However, I am generally for a strong steel industry, so this is good. I agree that if Clinton were elected this blast furnace would not have reopened.
I am not a Trump supporter but if all is as it seems, I'm happy to hear these announcements. I want the USA and Americans to succeed, regardless of who the President is.

I'm definitely pleased for Granite City- I live across the river in Missouri but have been to Granite on a handful of occasions. It is definitely a depressed area that's seen better days. Any revival of industry there is a positive.

Good luck with that one.
Hershey’s indicated they will take a hit, all those little kisses and other chocolates wrapped in aluminum.

Also bad for all the industries that use imported steel, like the auto industry. A lot more people work there than in steel.

Also, we get more steel from Canada and Mexico than from China.

Trump is using this to get a better trade deal with mexico and canada. He's 2 steps ahead of the liberal media. They'll never catch up, they aren't smart enough to figure it out.
