I would assume that if there were absolutely no trade tariffs, as well as no trade agreements (since Mr. Trump is tearing them up), then this country would not fare well with competing against Pakistan, India, Vietnam or China, to cite just a few countries.
I would assume that US businesses would move to said countries, where they can make their products cheaper, and then ship them back.
Of course, I know little about international trade. Perhaps someone could enlighten me on this point.
Or everybody get rid of their tariffs...but as Commerce Secretary Ross points out, they won't do that.
You can't suggest other countries dump tariffs while you subsidize an industry.

The EU has indirectly subsidized agriculture for years. Level the playing field? How about China raises it's manufacturing and industrial working conditions as well as quit playing games with their currency?
