Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Sunday that she approves of President Trump's move to bring tariffs into the trade conversation.
Why it matters: It's a reminder that Trump is closer to the left wing of the Democratic Party on trade than he is to mainstream Republicans like Paul Ryan.
----
Remember too: The President's tariff plan comes from his adviser Peter Navarro. Navarro is a Democrat who Hilary Clinton supported in his (failed) run for Congress.
It is funny how so many here seem to "hate" all Democrats but don't have a problem with the President who is toeing the line with Democrats on trade.

Tariff is a tax, so he is pushing for more taxes. The cost will be passed onto the US consumer.
He is. And this is why he won over traditional Dem states like WI, MI, and PA in 2016, and why Bernie Sanders would've annihilated Trump had he been the Dem nominee. The DNC really shot itself in the foot by rigging the system in favor of Hillary

I agree: Sanders vs. Trump would have been very interesting. They both appealed to certain voters because they appeared to be outsiders (neither really is, of course). I think there is some truth to what you're saying about Sanders having a shot at beating Trump if they'd gone head to head. Of course, we'll never know for certain.
Wow Granny Warren is actually given Trump a thumbs up! What's next Cats and Dogs living together ?
She is so anti Trump that she borders on the crazy scale right next to Maxine Waters...
The bigger question is why do we need to pick sides down the Right or Left of the political aisle.
Obama was clearly a Lefty all the way.
I say we need a President that can walk the aisle of Congress and shake hands with everyone.
There has to be a balance for a better America.
Imagine if the Dems and the Lefty media would stop trashing Trump at every turn how public opinion would turn for the better.
Imagine if Trump really does Make America Great Again and doing so requires a team effort.
I think it is great that Elizabeth Warren is big enough to agree on something that Trump is doing that might actually be a positive for America.

He campaigned on his trade ideas and position.
Trying to drive a wedge between Trump and his supporters on trade will fail.
The democrats didn't convince their candidate last election to support tariffs. Quite the opposite. No surprise most who get elected don't do what they promise or listen to those who voted them into office.

I agree with you on this. But, in order to do that we need to stop calling each other names and try to find common ground that we can all agree on. That goes for all of us, from the President on down.
For instance, I think that *most* of us would agree that we want to see our great nation be successful. We may disagree on the path to get there, but most of us share that common ground at least.
Yet, the way some here talk, everyone who says anything even slightly negative about the President's approach is anti-American. I mean, that is clearly why multiple other threads were started about Elizabeth Warren this morning -- to get folks riled up about bashing her. Yet, in doing so, neither of those threads mentioned that she also said something positive about the President's tariffs plan.
So, until people stop attacking each other at the slightest disagreement no progress will be made. What makes America great is that we are all free to have our own opinions and ideas and to speak openly about them. That goes for the press too, by the way.
If the President is serious about shaking hands with both sides of the aisle (and developing a more positive relationship with the press), he could set a good example for the country by changing the tone he uses in some of his public communications. Who wants to shake hands with someone who calls you an SOB?
Here on City Data, we could all also do better at spending less time with name-calling and more time actually listening to each other.
Anyhow, just something I've been thinking about for awhile. Hope it makes sense.
Tariff is a tax, so he is pushing for more taxes. The cost will be passed onto the US consumer.
And other US manufacturers who sell outside of the country.
There are millions of people who work in manufacturing with steel and aluminum parts and less than a quarter million people who produce steel and aluminum in the US. These tariffs will be great for the short term steel and aluminum producers, but could hurt the millions who work in other industries that will now use more expensive steel and aluminum.
We need to be working on developing future industries like in technology, automation, AI, etc...
