Mark Short, director of legislative affairs, popped into the press briefing to discuss historic obstruction by Dems in confirming nominees which puts national security at risk. All because Schumer has thrown his toys out of the crib and is having tantrums using the Senate cloture process to prevent these nominees from getting new jobs. This is a filibuster. The Senate needs a super majority to get past the motion to proceed which is why it doesn't matter if the Reps are the majority. It's a rule that needs to be abolished. Interestingly, most are finally confirmed unanimously, which proves the process was a waste of time.
Short said the last four administrations in the first term faced a total of 32 cloture votes. The Trump administration has faced 79 in fourteen months. Several key security positions have been waiting 298 days. It's become so ridiculous that even some Dems have had enough stalling and they just want to get on with things.
Short appears in the first fifteen minutes and takes questions from the presstitutes. You will learn a lot.
It is obvious the Democrats aren't helping the Republicans enough. Look at the turnover. It is obvious that Trump is struggling to put together his best team. Maybe he should listen to the Democrats.
Democrats may be giving Trump a hard time on his bad choices. Is it because they are being stubborn or Trump is not doing a good job in vetting his nominations.
Also -- no matter how Trump, Sanders, Trump fans spin this...Trump has yet to nominate a whole bunch of people-- hundreds..that's not on the Democrats -- that's on Trump.
"Two years ago today, I had the honor of being nominated for the Supreme Court of the United States by President @BarackObama. Committed to my family, the constitution, justice- it was an honor and pleasure to at least have been nominated."
Anyway, I am by nature against obstruction. However, that said, we must recall that when Obama won the Presidency the Republican leadership decided to obstruct any and all proposals by the President, including those that they happen to agree with. After the 2010 election (where the R's took back the House), they truly became the 'party of no'.
One thing leads to another. The Republicans refusal to 'advise and consent' to many of Obama's judicial nominees led to the 'nuclear option' being used on Court nominees below the Supreme Court. Of course, the Republicans followed suit with the 'nuclear option' for the top Court itself.
Again, I have long said that a President's nominee should be confirmed, absent strong evidence to the contrary. Yet, the bar has been lowered by both parties.
I seem to recall that Candidate Trump had claimed that, due to his superior negotiating powers, he would not have difficulty in dealing with the Democrats. Perhaps he should unleash his power. Or, if not that, at least quit nominating (as he has done in some cases, although obviously not all) individuals wholly unqualified for the nominated positions. Indeed, there are many positions that he simply has not made any nominations at all.
I have noted before, and I will here again, that it may well be interesting if, in November, the Democrats happen to retake the Senate. I will predict that, in January 2019 after the new Senate is seated, Mr. Trump will find it very, very difficult to get any new Supreme Court nominees through. After all, the Democrats will proclaim, 'the people' had spoken. May as well wait for the next President election, they will say.
I would not agree with such thinking. I am simply making a prediction.
The Dems are blocking everything Trump as quietly as they can and then in 2020 they will shout from the roof of the capital buildings "Trump couldn't get anything done".
They are blocking Trump and their fellow Dems love it but the rest of the country is realizing that they are nothing but bitter sore losing obstructionists.
They say that Trump is really hurting the GOP but I say the actions of the Dems are really hurting their party.

Put good people up, and they get the votes. Trump's track record for picking people is a disgrace, as evidenced by the mayhem in the white house and the number of appointees which have been removed already. A record number of nominations have yet to be made, Trump is not finding people (whether through negligence or whether people refuse to be considered I don't know)!
Quit making excuses for your failed goofball Messiah.

Don’t try to deflect. We are not talking about supreme court nominations. We are talking about government posts that are being stalled and obstructed here. Trump’s nominees are being obstructed for record lengths of time. No other administration has had longer wait times. Republican Congress did not delay or obstruct Obama nominees anywhere as long as the hateful Democrats have done to this current administration.
