People are dead because we award contracts based on politics over merit. Strange how this story doesnt seem to be investigated further but places like cnn have round the clock coverage on stormy daniels. This whole tiger program was just rotten
Are you saying that Obama or anybody in DC let the contract? Did the local people do it? Who was supervising the local contractor?
DH father worked for Brown and Root. This kind crap has been going on for 75 years that I can verify. The local politicians are knee deep in it as are their elected people in DC.
Ummm.....the way funding programs work is the the feds give state/local governments money to do public projects. Said state/local government then uses their own procurement/vetting process to chose vendors/contractors - not the feds.
I got a promotion and did a lot of procurement projects with federal grant monies issues as a result of the "stimulus" from the Obama administration between 2009 and 2011. We issued requests for proposals and did sealed bids for local contractors to build/renovate public buildings. We also worked with the city to ensure that the city used stimulus money to upgrade roads/sidewalks, etc near our buildings that were being renovated/built as they also got money from programs like TIGER.
I agree with Elliot on this one. You all are pulling straws. If anyone is the blame, it is the contractor for doing a crappy job or the local project manager for not ensuring that work was completed correctly (if that was the cause of the collapse).
New technique supposes that they could build a bridge while allowing traffic to flow through. Somehow that didn't apply to stress tests on unsupported concrete spans.
Wow! I never voted for nor supported Obama and even I wouldn’t blame Obama for this fiasco. I’d look at the building materials used to see if any key parts were made from substandard materials and see if this was an intentional cost cutting act on the part of the builder or a substitution from the supplier to pad their profits by charging high prices for low quality parts. I’d also look at the city/state inspectors finances and records to see if they actually showed up on site to inspect and if they received bribes to give a passing inspection. Also, who approved leaving the road open to traffic without additional supports prior to the construction and testing work being completed?
