Unfortunately, he later gave away the store when he privately assured the Imperial Japanese Empire that the US would not be terribly upset if IJE were to overrun Korea. (We were, @ the time, guaranteeing Korea's independence.) TR thought that the IJE were people we could do business with - as they were also a rising power in Asia.
As Realpolitik, a terrible legacy ensued in IJE's conquest of Manchuria, coastal China, the Western colonies south of Japan, the Philippines, & on to the borders of India.
No, after WWII, US policy was to maintain a strong defense - a standing army, navy, Marine Corps, & later a separate air force. & later ICBMs, long-range bombers, & all the bases & logistics & support personnel & materiel & equipment to keep all that going.

BS. Obama did not do anything to help our Military. He was too busy helping Illegal Aliens and Sanctuary Cities. Did you like being put on the back burner behind Illegal Aliens? You must have. Demorats have no defense, have no plan, and are a worse threat to America than ISIL.

Why do you want a strong military? This country faces no threat of being invaded; we're surrounded by oceans and have Canada to the north. We haven't fought a war of defense since 1812.
The $700 billion military budget should be cut to $7.
