Lol...hilarious, since the only way you earn it is by living there.

This is the part that cracks me up:

The joke has always been that Alaska is so wealthy it pays its residents to live here. But those yearly checks have gotten smaller, and could undergo a massive change, as Alaska struggles to pay state troopers and fix roads amid years of low oil prices.

After oil started flowing from Alaska's North Slope in the late 1970s, so did the checks, which were eventually paid with earnings from an oil-wealth fund that's grown to about $65 billion through investments.

Times were so good, the state in 1980 repealed its personal income tax, a decision that has been politically impossible to undo as the state grapples with a multibillion-dollar budget deficit.
Okay, so you don’t want an income tax, so how in the hell do you suppose that state and municipal costs get covered?

And you have the nerve to be perturbed about the dwindling of a check that you didn’t really EARN???

Of course, I suppose that our conservative posters are gonna tell me that Alaskans are entitled liberals, right?

I think most of them believe they are tough, libertarian survivalists.

They don’t think so though. Of course, I can’t get enough of telling them that they are.

They are upset because part of the deal with this fund was that it specifically NOT be raided. And yet here they are...raiding it.

1) When people get a hand out, they don't appreciate it and it better not go away.

2) They never should have named it a permanent fund.

Hmmmmmm................

Seems about right. In other states this is labeled as"welfare" though, and the unearned monies are much higher than 2k a year.

If the state can give it, the state can take it away.............
