The military is made up of many different people with many different views. Yes, it’s probably true that conservative/traditional values are far more compatible with military values than liberal ones.
Some military members might side with the government and the flag to which they have sworn allegiance. Others might side with a rebellion. It’s hard to say if a larger proportion would be loyalist or rebel in the modern context. In the American Civil War, some generals sided with the Union, others sided with the Confederacy.
My point was simple: one armed loon with a gun isn’t going to stand a chance against an army. John Brown (and his posse) found that out in Harpers Ferry in 1859.
If if they don't side with a rebellion.......
How many members of the military are going to want to fire on fellow Americans?

You assume only one person would be facing an entire army, and you are wrong for both sides. There is more than one person in America who will not yield to tyranny, and the entire army will not be employed in a door to door fashion.
American citizens are, by and large, a pretty well armed group of people. No, we do not have missiles, tanks, air power, etc...but we have hundreds of millions of small arms and trillions of rounds of ammunition. We also have our life, liberty and property to love and defend, while the mercenary soldier who attacks based on orders has only those orders and their paycheck as motivation. When it comes down to it, the hired soldier loses their will to fight before the person who is defending life, liberty and property does.
It's why insurgencies are effective at repelling larger, more technologically capable forces, and have been since ever. Eventually the larger oppressing force must make the decision to either withdraw or scorch the Earth in order to achieve total destruction, because the insurgent rarely loses their will because every inch the oppressor goes, every crumb they take by force, the insurgent's will and hatred grow. The two great superpowers of the last 70 years have both been stalled and largely repelled in Afghanistan by small unit infantry using small arms. Neither superpower ever committed to total scorched Earth, and the insurgents' will and hatred only grew and never abated.
Plus, our government typically rolls with an overall approval rating somewhere in the teens. Americans generally dislike their government. What do you think the percentage of ARMED Americans is who are big fans of Leviathan and will comply with government efforts to oppress them? I doubt it is very significant, if even noticeable.
You underestimate your fellow American's willingness and ability to resist oppression.
Um... hi. You've got a lot of posts and I don't want to make this a full time unpaid internment so maybe you could not be ambiguous and take a stand one way or the other for us then?
I hope you mean "internship" rather than "internment!"
Who says he does ? If he has the $20k or more needed to pay for one, and has been thru all the paperwork and background checks , paid the tax stamp and created a trust.....I see no reason why he shouldn't have one.
I'm guessing this is just going to fly over some heads
You and your stash of small arms wouldn’t stand a chance against a modern military.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
Then its a good thing the US military cannot be deployed on US soil, ain't it?
Or is this one of those hypotheticals where nobody is following any rules ? Because if so, remember its not going to be a conventional conflict. It will be 100% guerilla tactics.

Possibly even relatives?
A lot of folks on here were obviously not alive to witness the Kent State embarrassment.
