Stop letting the Fox News propaganda machine convince you that Social Security will run out of money and Medicare is unfordable.

The Europeans are taking care of their people. We claim to be the greatest nation on Earth yet we want to terminate what keeps our middle class out of destitution. Take a good hard look at what the richest of the rich want you to believe. You've worked a life time making them unimaginably rich and they not only want you to fight over the crumbs, they want to sweep the crumbs away.

Wake up. Why are you letting the media do your thinking for you?

this has been an issue for decades. when one side is in power, the other claims that medicare and social security are bankrupt and need reforming. or when one side decides they need something to win elections, they make the same claims. and it isnt just fox news doing it either, all the rest of the news channels out there will make the same claims from time to time depending on what their agenda is, so stop blaming fox news exclusively.

The Social Security Administration themselves stated that they will run out of money in 2034.

You might want to wake up yourself.

They need to make fixes.

Someone can dig up the numbers but IIRC

APPROXIMATELY

The average person gets back all they put into social security BOTH SIDES (employee and employer) PLUS INTEREST in about 9 years.
The average person gets back all they put into medicare BOTH SIDES PLUS INTEREST in about 5 years.

NOT advocating cuts or tax increases but how do fix that basic math?

one idea that has been floated by both sides over the years is to privatize at least part of social security so that the ultimate recipients can control at least part of how their socsec taxes are invested.

another would be to eliminate the cap on when socsec taxes are stopped.

Please educate yourself on Europe's situation. They are on the verge of implosion due to promises made that they can't keep. Debt has been hidden and swept under the rug and Europe has borrowed against it's future at interest rates at 5000 year lows. Why do you think countries are revolting and it's youth protesting? This isn't about the rich against the poor or middle class -- it's about politicians who tell us one thing and then do something else to line their own pockets and save their own jobs. We wouldn't be in this mess if they didn't give away the farm to buy votes. You can not blame fiscal conservatives for what is going on -- they were sounding the warning bell for decades.

Close the borders first and then we can start talking about what freebies we should or should not be handing out to people.

do you want a government that gives you the freedom to be middle class or one that makes people perpetually reliant on government?

freedom to succeed also means freedom to fail... some people just fail to learn from their failures and keep repeating them

i dont mind social nets, but they should have time limits on them, if you can't succeed within that time frame, you're a lost cause to society.

5000 years? really?
What were the interest rates during the first dynasty of Egypt?

The basic structure changes of the economy makes any comparison vs more than about 150 years worthless.
