It's either that or they ask for permission and if denied they call out a K9 and direct them to search, even going as far as opening the doors and putting the K9 in the vehicle.

How is that not searching the car without warrant if they put the K9 police officer in the car?

The other thing that baffles me is how they have all the time with everything going on to stop everyone riding a bicycle for lack of lights at night or, just walking down the side of the street and demand ID and a search of their person "for their safety".

Anyone else think things are getting a tad out of hand when it comes to citizens rights?
LOL... the dog allegedly reacted to something it smelled in the car from the outside which apparently gave the cop probable cause to search... including letting the dog in to search.
I was watching it one time and the dog stood up in the passenger door and started scratching... I was thinking, there goes the guy's paint job.... and they found nada!

Actually, there 's plenty of that on the show, it is filmed live, as it happens, sans a cople min buffer I'd imagine, but you see a lot of the mundane.

I do agree with OP however, in regards to them always using the line of "it smells like weed" as a way to further search, then run a dog and get the dog to alert on something, anything.

I've loved the cops ever since that day. even when they have given me subsequent speeding tickets.
We were all smoking pot in the car in the hills above town when a cop came by and cheerfully told us to wrap things up, not leave the car and head out. Then he got in his car and drove off. This was maybe 2 years after wildfires ravaged the hills and dozens of homes in the area.

Of course if he had stepped out and lit the hillside on fire or drove off a cliff, the cop would be in trouble for not throwing us in jail for the good of society.

Also declined consent to search like 7 years ago (walking down the street in the middle of the night, long hair and beard at the time). He tried to push a little, mentioning both marijuana and burglaries in the area, then let me go (I have no criminal record, don't use drugs, drink etc).

I drive through high crime areas at all hours of the day and night because of my rotating shifts. It is blatantly obvious which drivers or bicycle riders are involved in criminal activity. To the novice, they’re just driving or riding along doing nothing. Where they’re coming from, where they’re going, at what speed are they traveling, how they are driving or riding, and their body language all play a part in telling me what they’re up to. Cops see this as well. They know these people are in the process of committing a crime but need a justification to pull them over. Burnt light, no lights on bicycle, riding bicycle in the wrong lane of traffic, rolling stop at stop sign, excessively dark window tint, illegal headlights, etc. are all valid reasons used for a traffic stop.

It's filmed live, however, they switch between departments and go to the one that's seeing the action.
