They were speaking about this on NPR a few days back. A representative from the UAW union said that they did not support any move to raise tarrifs on or otherwise prohibit/discourage foreign auto makers from selling cars here, due to the number of employees in dealerships and plants across the country affiliated with foreign auto makers, whose jobs would be on the line.

That is the reason I think this story is BS. Trump would know this and would not put Americans out of work. In the small town near me there is a BMW parts factory that employs 250 people who make good money. In my town there is a Toyota parts factory. Trump seeks being a big job creator so I think this non sense never ever came into his mind.

He has already threatened it. Today he taxed EU for steel and aluminum. IF EU retaliates I see him doping this.

However, EU cars made in USA could be exempt. Who knows.

Or maybe he is referring to actual imports, which are brought in from the old continent, and not the ones assembled here. But of course the parts still arrive from Europe, so they would have nothing to assemble.

Even if he does know about those operations in the Carolina's what makes you think he would care? He happily dumped Harley to the curb. The fact that German and Japanese automakers and their supply chains employ a huge number of people in this country won't matter to him at all. Probably because he believes his fan base does not work these jobs.

110,000 workers and nearly a million cars manufactured in the US by Americans for Der Germanz. I guarantee he has no idea about that.

No different than his new metal tariffs for "national security" on steel and aluminum penalize our closest allies, Canada and the US, not China.

Trade wars are easy, just like healthcare was...

What evidence is there he would care about "americans" he is already raising prices on said americans with tariffs (taxes).
And German auto manufacturers import fewer car to the US than they build in the US and export globally.
Trump is an economic ignoramus.
