US Dept.of HHS now sees abstinence education as being so effective that they are willing to pull grant money from teen prevention grants for those that don't address abstinence.

Quote:
SPOKANE, Wash. — Several affiliates of Planned Parenthood sued the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Friday over its efforts to impose an abstinence-only focus on its Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program that has served more than 1 million young people.

Last year, the agency informed recipients of 81 teen pregnancy prevention grants that it would terminate their grant agreements two years early, meaning this year. That decision was made after President Trump appointed Valerie Huber as chief of staff for the Office of Assistant Secretary of Health.
After her appointment, Huber wrote an article decrying the lack of federal funding for abstinence education and questioned the effectiveness of teen pregnancy prevention grants.

Abstinence only has nothing to do with sex ed. In fact, it's the exact opposite of sex ed. It's anti sex ed.

Teen pregnancy rates peaked in 1990 and have been falling ever since.

Unmarried teen pregnancy/ abortion rates have been at the lowest point in 75+ years, for many years. This is true in all states and crosses all races and ethnicities.

Something has gotten through to kids and it’s not abstinence.

I can't tell from this article if the abstinence-only was required to be a PART of the program or was HHS requiring it replace the program? If HHS wants the abstinence info added to the existing program what is wrong with that? More info is better than less.

Kids are going to have sex. Give them protection, not just birth control but also from various STDs.
