Governments create black markets over and over again with oppressive taxes and/or regulations. And then some people act surprised when it happens.

In this case it's marijuana. A plant just like carrots, tomatoes and oregano. Why should the government have anything to say about growing plants?

So governments get greedy and impose draconian taxes and regulations. Then act surprised when the black market flourishes.

Legal pot shops are losing customers who can get products more cheaply at illegal outlets that don’t charge or pay taxes, said Adam Spiker, executive director of the Southern California Coalition, a trade organization that represents cannabis growers, distributors and dispensary owners.

Law enforcement also thrives off the black market...if the flow of drugs was suddenly stopped, the cash and property seizures would also stop, arrests would go down too, cant arrest people for drug crimes if there are no drugs coming in!

The black market relies on the US having tough laws against drugs, they definitely are against any legalization!

In this regard, govt/ law enforcement, work hand in hand WITH the black market, they both rely on each other to thrive.

Yup..My state is flooded with legal MJ from Colorado and CA although it is legal here for medicinal use but the black market here is cheaper than the legal shops. There are people who are like traveling pot shops with everything you can get in the legal shops but cheaper and I know some people who have a script but choose to go the black market route.

I'm not sure why that's government's fault.

That's deviant people choosing to skirt the law.

Heh, in Nova Scotia when legalization was around the corner all these head shops opened up and were stockpiling dope. Turns out only licensed liquor stores can sell it and the local police raided the shops and closed them down.

Yep, thats police shutting down the competition. This is another way that law enforcement is in collusion with the drug cartels, they make sure there is only ONE single source for illegal drugs.

One of the funniest/saddest things about the drug war is that you can't even keep drugs out of PRISON, which shows that cracking down on drugs wouldn't even work if prison-like conditions were imposed on the population.

It's all a convenient excuse for more power and revenue. They know it doesn't work, and they know it creates black markets and violent crime, and that's exactly how they like it. They're creating problems that keep the votes and money coming in.

"You need us to stop this problem...which we're creating, but ignore that part. The world is scary, now give us more taxes and control over your life."
