You need only to look at a map of the Mediterranean to see that Russia has been driven out. Russia cannot port ships in the Adriatic Sea, because Yugoslavia was castrated and Croatia now controls those ports. Russia cannot base aircraft in Serbia, because the country is ringed by NATO member-States.
Why is it a law of nature that the Russian navy must have a port on the Med - it's kind of out of Russia's way, isn't it?
Same for the Baltic. If Russia hadn't had a history of being expansionist grade-A unprintables to her neighbors, who's to say that Latvia wouldn't be happy to host a Russian Navy base? Currently, that's a ridiculous thought, of course, everybody knows that inviting the Russian military is giving up on being your own country in a generation or so.
If you had capacity for introspection, you would probably ask yourself why Congress found it necessary to take a pretty unprecedented step like that.
Go ahead, you tell me why those fools have no time to pass a budget, finish the dam Mueller witch hunt or fix the border...but seems to have time for this foolishness..
I'm sure the good people in Estonia and Latvia would have just loved that.
The EU is perfectly capable of providing for their defense, unless you're suggesting the Euro-States are defensively weak.

It's out of the way for the US as well.
If you haven't looked at a map lately, Russia is part of Europe and Russia does border the Black Sea.
I'm not seeing where the US borders Europe or the Mediterranean.

Did you ever stop to consider that inclusion of Russia in NATO would have altered its path, and that the election of Putin is a response by the Russia people to counter aggressive US ambitions?
I just watched the full press conference Trump had with Theresa May and they discussed NATO . As usual the biased media only told part of the story. Sounds like all the nations are united and it's stronger than ever. Trump also mentioned that now all interviews with reporters will be recorded because he's tired of the fake news. Don't know why they didn't think to do this sooner.
The conference was very interesting with everyone in great spirits and relaxed. Two funny bits with the Reuters reporter and Ted Baxter Acosta.
