LA has murder rate of about 7 which is remarkably low for such a large city. Adjusting for population over the past 7 years Brownsville TN should of had about one murder per year if they were going to be on par with LA.
As we can see it's the assaults that is driving up their crime index. I'd be very careful about reading into that as reporting could have a huge impact here. e.g the cops in LA are less likely to report or even have time to deal with a street fight and perhaps the cops in Crossville are just more likely to arrest someone for it. You'd really have to look into what is driving the higher number for assaults.
Just to add when you are comparing statistics like this it's very problematic especially when one area has such a small sample size. For example my Grandmother lives in a small town similarly sized. A few years back three teens were killed by a younger man and another teen form the Philadelphia area. There wasn't any murder before then for I don't know how long and any since. The murder rate there for that year would have exceeded Detroit's because you are dealing with such small sample size in population.

So, you pick one Appalachian backwater, an area historically depressed because of lack of infrastructure and jobs and compare it to one major city?
There are many factors which contribute to crime, but the major one is lack of economic opportunities, something all areas that have had decades of Democrat rule, whether they be white Appalachia or black inner city areas share.
At least the people in poor rural areas have wised up and are now attempting to improve their areas by via lower taxation and regulation, thereby drawing employment by voting Republican, whereas the depressed inner city areas are still clinging to the party that destroyed their communities.
Wow! Lets see....you used HISTORY, the ECONOMY, DEPRESSED AREA.....when the focus is on explaining white crime. When talking about Black crime......all those things are rejected.
