The situation may be bleak for millenials in southern California facing astronomical rents, high cost of living, widespread crime, disease, and homelessness, but the opposite is true for millenials in thriving cities like Bismarck and Midland.

Bismarck millennials get to enjoy a clean, peaceful, and high functioning city while at the same time taking home 50% more in income than their LA counterparts, adjusted for cost of living. Midland, TX isn't far behind.

But once you figure in the cost of living and taxes, Silicon Valley doesn't look as great. You'd be better off — at least from a financial standpoint — moving to Bismarck, N.D., or Midland, Texas, where you'd only earn about $33,000, but would have more in your pocket at the end, the study's authors say.

No surprise here. When one factors in cost of living and taxes, most of the so called red states look pretty good. Average Income and Cost of Living in Every State | Money

Let's see liberals roll into town and tell the locals how things ought be done. Liberals will never quite understand why once wholesome communities suddenly become chitholes. They will also never quite understand why every place they swarm suddenly requires social welfare experiments, many layers of government intrusion, destruction of free speech and free expression, and other 3rd worldly features.

They are rolling into Colorado at record numbers, voting for tax increases and regulation. Once the state becomes the California they are escaping, or the previous Detroit as an example, where will they move?

Venezuela, if we're lucky. Or maybe Mexico, since the new prez is a socialist. They belong in a wasteland, that way they won't have to make any adjustments.

Their next targets are wonderful places such as Montana and Idaho.

Below is a one bedroom 700 sf apartment for $2,000 a month in Midland. That is pretty high for a dusty west texas town. There are some better deals but apartments are expensive in Midland now. They are in the same price range as San Diego.

I kick myself because I went out to the area before the Permian basin exploded with oil several years ago and you could by these dumpy houses for under $10K in Big Spring not far from Midland. Nobody wanted them. Now they are close to 10 times that.

With the oil boom there is a lack of available housing so everything is skyrocketing. A friend of mine passed through the area a few months back. They wanted to stop in Pecos, TX again not far from Midland for the night. The junky flea ridden motels are more than $100 a night. I just checked Motel 6 there and its booked up for weeks. And is also more than $100 a night. Nicer places are more than double that. I think they paid $140 for a very dumpy motel room.

Its all supply and demand. Prices will go up in these places. Plus your link above if they are using current wages and 2 year old housing costs they are not real numbers. Landlords will quickly take advantage of the lack of supply and already have.
