'The president (Manduro, that is) said that all Venezuelans who hold the "Fatherland ID", a government-issued identity card introduced by his administration in 2017, will continue to receive "direct subsidies" for "about two years".'
That's in reference to the fuel subsidies that have bankrupted the country.
What are Fatherland ID's?
' "President Maduro introduced the new ID card in January 2017 arguing it would serve to make his socialist government's social programmes more effective."
And since then, we can all see how Venezuela has progressed.
"Getting the ID is free and voluntary for anyone over 15 but those who apply have to answer a series of questions about their socio-economic status and what state benefits, if any, they are receiving.
According to government figures, by January 2018, 16.5 million Venezuelans out of 31.5 million citizens had applied for a "Fatherland ID".'
The US needs Fatherland ID's, too. We even need to call them Fatherland ID's. I can't even begin to explain the good this would do.
Only one thing Maduro forgot to mention is that Venezuelan oil production is collapsing but the dynamic duo sure don't look concerned. "Maximum socialist effectiveness!" https://thumbor.forbes.com/thumbor/9...%3Ffit%3Dscale

lol Venezuela is a hell hole. All those resources and the country is in horrible shape.
Soaring crime, hyperinflation, food shortages. Social democracy at work.
It's an economic program marked by price controls, government expropriation of private property, an enormous welfare state, central planning, and endless rhetoric about equality, poverty relief, and fighting the so-called "neoliberals."
Another reason why Bernie Sanders is a loon. That's his baby.

file it under "The many failures of govt planning"
I cannot believe anyone would hold up Venezuela as a model for anyone else. I have always joked that these liberal nutcases here in the US wanted to turn the US into Venezuela but here is one suggesting just that. Venezuela is on the verge of civil war, economic collapse and total failure. Socialism caused all of this in a country that was once a much better place. Venezuela is the poster child for the failure of socialism.

That's right. You can't.
