Donald Trump could have fired everyone associated with the investigations into him. The reality is if he had come down early and fast he would have caught the congress and senate as usual, asleep in their desks and impotent in power.

He now knows the investigators have found something he wanted hidden, and he has laid a narrative yet he seems to be very afraid to do the rational thing based on that narrative. If it's a witch hunt and you can shut it down, that's what you'd do. Trump has made an error that will cost him his presidency and his family here. Amazing how day after day he complains, and all the while the noose tightens. Either he doesn't have the power or doesn't understand the trouble he's in.

After all who cares what the "constitutional" fall out is - the country is a goner anyway.

And if Trump did this, he would be Nixon after the Saturday Night Massacre, on borrowed time.

..
I don't know if Trump could have gotten away with it early on, but regardless of how many "opinion" tweets he sends out, he won't get away with it now.

Nah, his major mistake was never developing any sense of moral and ethical behavior.

Trump is his own worst enemy. Tweeting like a teen age girl constantly. He has made the office of the President a joke.

I think I get what you're saying here. One of the realities here is that Mr. Trump & his family were not expecting to win the election full stop.

He/they were totally unprepared to take on the inherent responsibilities, he's been "leading" by the seat of his pants from day 1.

As for Congress? Still waiting for someone ... anyone ... to grow a spine.

Perhaps if Mr. McConnell had done so early on ...

Quote:
Former Vice President Joe Biden says he and President Barack Obama decided not to speak out publicly on Russian interference during the 2016 campaign after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to sign a bipartisan statement condemning the Kremlin's role.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Council on Foreign Relations, Biden said the Obama administration sought a united front to dispel concerns that going public with such accusations would be seen as an effort to undermine the legitimacy of the election.

However, McConnell "wanted no part of having a bipartisan commitment saying, essentially, 'Russia's doing this. Stop,' " he said.

At that point, Biden added, he felt that "the die had been cast" and that "this was all about the political play." ...
