They should have made a compromise: show Armstrong planting and saluting the flag but in the background have a buncha NFL players kneeling with their fists up.
Word is, they decided to not do a planting of the American flag scene because the movie producers have decided it was a human achievement more than an American one....even though it was our science and our money and our astronauts LOL.
LOL indeed. Where could anyone have gotten the idea that it was a human achievement?
it was us against them. it was America against the Soviets.
planting that flag at that time was as HUGE part of the story.
if this is true, I will not watch it.
Apparently it is true.
Quote:
First Man, starring Ryan Gosling, opened the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday and everyone noticed that it has left out the moment Armstrong planted the US flag on the Moon.
When the Canadian actor was asked if ‘First Man‘ deliberately took the focus away from US patriotism, Gosling said the achievement ‘transcended countries and borders.’
I think they want the movie to connect with everyone. As to not make it a some patriotic circle-jerk.
