If you work with them, and you believe 'free' programs have helped them, then you have not used your cognitive skills to understand reality. Or you're lying.

I did not say free programs help. I believe the exact opposite.

You act like they are confined to the Rez. They are free to participate in the regular world and many do. Many thrive outside the Rez . They only have to stay on the Rez for the free programs usually.

And they still get free college. But very few take advantage of that.

Exactly. American Indians are citizens and if they choose so, can live in your neighborhood, attend the local public school, work wherever etc and still get various benefits. I lived in an area and went to school with some of them at one time.

I may have misread, but you said "they have Free education. Free college." and you insinuated that because of these things, they should not be in poverty.

No I meant I think all the free programs are part of what keeps them on the Rez and in poverty. Excluding the ones that have casino money that’s a whole ‘nother ballgame.

Those without it can stay on the Rez and subsist or venture out into a world thy may have no chance in, and the no chance part is perpetuated generationally by them staying. Without the government assistance change would be forced. They would have to be like everyone else—sink or swim in the real world.

Also, assuming they have the natural resources there is nothing stopping them from living off the land the old way if they do choose. To whatever extent they want. Or mix it up. They have every government program in existence available to them.

This whole “took our way of life” stance, well who’s fault is that? Whites are not stopping anyone from passing on traditions.

Anyone capable of succeeding at college should take advantage of it being free. That’s on each individual. No excuse.

I agree generally and apologize for misreading. But, I do think that putting natives on reservations generations ago, along with policies to force western ways on on the natives helped to foster dependence. We also see the same thing among inner-city disadvantaged black populations.
