Frankly, I am not sure we know how to close the border. If we did, we wouldn't have illegals crossing.

Yep. Trump can feel the walls closing in. He's pulling every tin pot dictator trick he knows out of the bag.
Yep.

An overreaction to be certain, but if closing the borders to protect us the nation from a perceived threat does not lie within the purview of the President of the United States' power, then that's completely insane. That is exactly the kind of power that the Constitution intentionally and explicitly vested in the President. Whether Trump misuses said power or not, it's a power that he does indeed have. How else could any given Commander in Chief be expected to defend the nation against an actual surprise military invasion?

I'm betting he's playing a game of high stakes chicken here. We'll see how it plays out. It is quite overwhelmingly in Mexico's best interest to make the caravan problem go away ASAP because I think we all know that Trump's crazy enough to actually do it. Likely, that's exactly the game he's playing here.

Under what authority to they ask about citizenship?

They have every right to ask about citizenship status. They might have problems if they profiled in doing so and might be required to ask everyone or no one but there are no court orders blocking police from asking about citizenship, just policies in sanctuary cities and states protecting illegals.

Garbage post after garbage post.

Which state or local statute make being a non citizen a basis for a crime?

How about they ask you if you screw dogs? Or like to pull the wings off butterflies? At least the first might be a crime...maybe even the second. But being a non citizen? Even whether a non citizen is legal or not is beyond the ken of most police officers.

And it is well settled law that you need answer nothing unless the officer has an articulable suspicion of a crime. And even then you need state only your name.

Police ask about all sorts of things which are not a crime under local laws. If you're in an accident and have kids in the car they may ask if they are your kids. No law against having kids or driving with kids.

Btw, I'm not talking about approaching a group of brown people and asking about their status but asking about it during traffic stops, accidents, or other incidents predicated by probable cause of a local crime.

Yes, they were quite annoying with those frequent claims that we all knew they would walk back and pretend never happened when this inevitable issue came to a head. Something to consider while they are making new claims today.

Your post shows more BS and your basic dishonesty. Quote me if you wish but you do not have any right to edit the quote.

Only a confirmed liar omits an important part of a quote.

"Nielsen said there are more than 6,200 migrants “camped out” in Tijuana and more than 3,000 caravan members in Mexicali, 110 miles to the east. Combined with other groups still traveling through Mexico, officials expect as many as 10,000 migrants to arrive at the border, she said".

In San Diego visit, Homeland Security secretary calls caravan a 'crisis ... on the other side of this wall'
The US Army made that projection and it still may be true. There has been a gathering of all the loose ends in Mexico due to the publicity of this caravan by Trump.

So in this case the end may be driven by Trump not the Central Americans
