A record number of companies are leaving California for states with a better business climate, and a new report shows that Texas remains their No. 1 destination.
Is anyone really surprised? With Gavin Newsom beating Cox in the governor's race, I'm sure this will only get worse for CA and better for TX. Oh well, California deserves what it gets.
McKesson Corp., the biggest U.S. pharmaceutical distributor by revenue, is moving its headquarters from San Francisco to Texas, becoming the latest corporate giant to leave the Bay Area.
The company’s existing office at Las Colinas, Tex. in the Dallas area will become its headquarters in April, and most Bay Area jobs will be relocated
Companies seeking lower taxes or regulations or costs or combination thereof? NONE of those factors are alone. AL has low taxes and is NOT a big draw. There are multitudes of factors.
CA is getting to the point cost wise, 80K a year professionals are being hurt.
I believe Pfizer is moving jobs out of CA soon too. Look, I agree, the cost is getting simply too high for many companies to do business in CA, but the draw of CA for many educated minds is still quite strong. I believe that there is a limit though on how much COL can rise until the whole thing breaks. I specifically avoided applying for any tech jobs in the Bay Area because it is so expensive to live there and you'd never get ahead even with a 6 figure income.

Here is a shocker: (sit down for this one)
business owners skew GOP.
Glad everyone was sitting for that one.
That's interesting - since by my count the exact opposite is true.
Looking at even the top 10 market cap companies....they include
Apple
Google
Facebook
Buffet
Amazon
Microsoft
Exxon is the only one - a resource extraction company - that may skew GOP.
The others are banks...and Johnson and Johnson...none of them GOP. In fact, much of Wall Street is Democratic.
This is another myth.
If "business" skews GOP, why are the states with the higher per capita income blue?
Anyway, it's never good to make assumptions. Old line resources extraction companies skew Republican because it's good for their bottom line to pollute, mine and drill more and the GOP supports that.
But when it comes to innovation and the new economy - not even close. Not in the same ballpark.
