That’s right, we are in for two years of liberals wasting time with senseless investigations and a future house leader who is incoherent most of the time. Getting my popcorn ready.

The house is grossly gerrymandered. Republicans can take the house even if they lose the popular vote (they have, in fact, done exactly that in the recent past). Democrats need a margin of +6 or +7 to have any real hope of taking over.

The bigger story is that Republicans went down in place like Wisconsin. You know, places Trump absolutely has to hold onto if he wants to be reelected.

I don't know what his strategy is going to be to keep the rust belt red. He had one trick - lie to them about bring back jobs. He's unlikely to be able to sell that lie again in 2020.

The real takeaway is that the will of the people doesn't matter all that much. The will of the people in a few states and in a few districts matters a whole lot, though.
"That's a remarkably simplistic read of what happened."

You are an excuse maker.

"They were never expected to do well"

Sorry, ALL we HEARD for a SOLID YEAR was about the "BLUE WAVE COMING"!

"The house is grossly gerrymandered."

Always HAS BEEN. Don't forget, the dems controlled the HOUSE for FORTY STRAIGHT YEARS and MOST states and we NEVER heard a BAD word about gerrymandering THEN.

I wonder why? HMM!

"The bigger story is that Republicans went down in place like Wisconsin."

WRONG! The BIG story is the repubs PICKED UP SEATS IN THE SENATE CONTRARY to the "blue wave" promised by the dems.

"I don't know what his strategy is"

Thank you for FINALLY ADMITTING you DON'T know!

Ben Jealous shook my hand right before I went in to vote.

But I still voted for the other guy. LOL

Think about it.

Many FAR left dems who won seats for the 1st time said they would NOT vote for Pelosi to be the Speaker of the House.

How else do they expect get THEIR far left proposals passed id Pelosi does NOT help them.

Anybody who knows anything about her, being they spoke out AGAINST her, she will NOT help THEM.

When the dems held control of the House for 40 STRAIGHT years, not a SINGLE freshmen dem got a single bill passed. They had to "show" they supported the "party" first.

If any of these new freshman think they are going to get ANYTHING passed, they are in for rude awakening.

"but the women and the minorities are the ones who will make history"

A philosophy that will NOT work over time.

More and more people are tired of "identity" politics and the dividing of people into little "boxes".

People SHOULD be elected BECAUSE of the views on ALL issue and NOT because of the sex or race, etc

Uh huh, first post and right out of the gate you post a provocative thread...……..

Anyway, your logic is a little upside down , but if it makes you feel better. If you think the GOP and Trump, especially, are not sitting with their tails between their legs, you are wrong. Trump said this election was "all about him", and it is only the second truthful statement the man has made in his life. It WAS all about him, and the people who wear the GOP name tags suffered because of him, and him alone.

I guess you missed that little thing about the House going to the Democrats, huh ?

PA has relatively neutral districts now
OH changed their redistricting for 2020.
MI passed their anti gerrymandering for 2020
UT looks to pass theirs
CO passed theirs

OH and MI were two bigger ones that should be reduced. Remember there is a natural advantage the GOP has in the fact the Dems are so concentrated in many areas. PA which is a light blue state still is 10-8 in cook PVI advantage

So bigger states that are still heavily gerrymandered:
TX, NC, MD, IL, WI
Am i missing any?

IIRC NC had a court case about gerrymandering.

In a state like Maryland, you take what you can get.

He is still a better pick than Ben Jealous.
