I have always said that Amazon is just online WalMart, and maybe even worse, especially in the way they treat their low skilled employees. I have never spent a dime at Amazon. But while WalMart has a long history of taking hits from the left, Amazon has tended to go unscathed. But not by AOC.

Whatever happened to Democrats being pro-union? Does Amazon have even one union employee? As far as I know, no.

BTW here's a bonus recent article on Amazon from Bloomberg.

Some of the 'Flex' drivers make below minimum wage, according to a new report by a financial analyst.

Quote:
Amazon advertises an hourly rate of $18 to $25 for Flex. But interviews with Flex drivers and research by financial analysts at Bernstein indicate the net pay is much less when accounting for essential, on-the-job expenses. Actual earnings are $5 or $11 an hour, depending on what a worker chooses to deduct, Bernstein found.

It sounds like aoc wants gig jobs to become employee positions as opposed to IC status. According to the BI article, these positions are very competitive so they must be popular. It’s likely most of the ICs Flex drivers do not understand how to properly file their expenses to the IRS.

When she went on her rant about Uber earlier this year she ended up looking like a hypocrite as her campaign had spent over $4000 on Uber and Lyft rides and another $2,500 on 90 Juno rides.

Young progressive should support the cooperative economy and give up on the deadly right wing capitalist silicon valley economy.

I know tech is cool, but corporate control is authoritarian and right wing.

No one is forced to work for amazon and it makes money because it satisfies its customers. Maybe Ocasio-Cortez prefers it to be run GM style, unionized, bailed out and not satisfying its customers.

Her actual complaint about Amazon being subsidized by NYC is a legitimate concern.

If you are so against unions and workers' rights, then stop referring to yourself as a "liberal".

You're not. Sorry.

Thank you, this is right.

Also corporations moving in eat small businesses and price out the community.

Some republicans or conservatives have a problem with Amazon.

For one thing, politicians Democrats at that even, offered Amazon 3 billion from tax payers to come to liberal heavy NYC. I don't have a problem with state and local government having lower tax rates or regulations in general that would attract business. But cutting special deals and payoffs to lure a certain corporation especially away from another state is another thing. I don't think it's even constitutional because state and local are not suppose to be actively affecting interstate commerce.
