Almost all of them , all presidents say things about foreign involvement that later become a joke. Republican and Democrat.

I'll start, you can add your own for whatever president and we can all shake our heads collectively.

quote Obama "the Libyan people can now celebrate their freedom and the beginning of a new era of promise.

"Now that the fighting in Libya has reached an end, the Transitional National Council (TNC) must turn its attention to the political transition ahead. We look forward to working with the TNC and an empowered transitional government as they prepare for the country’s first free and fair elections. The Libyan authorities should also continue living up to their commitments to respect human rights, begin a national reconciliation process, secure weapons and dangerous materials, and bring together armed groups under a unified civilian leadership. As they take these steps, the United States will continue our close cooperation with our international partners and the U.N. Support Mission in Libya to help advance a stable, democratic transition."

That’s because bombing civilians has never been about helping people.

Sadly some people are too brainwashed to understand this.

to add "mission accomplished", which you can pick apart yeah maybe the military was defeated so "mission accomplished" but having a stable Iraq was far from accomplished and the side effects came home to roost.

Your cynical slant is a little mean and deceptive, perhaps.

Presidents say things on ALL topics, not just foreign involvement, and their words are meant to convey hope and encouragement and support. Often they backfire - and often it's not at all the fault of the president - but that doesn't mean that the statements shouldn't have been made.

Surely it's better to make aspirational statements urging people to contemplate progress, rather that to spout the hostility and insults that Trump is known for.

Yeah, the Libya thing was a big F up on Obamas part. To be fair, he admitted it too.

Mean? No. A angry tone?, well yes a bit. And yes certainly cynical. How about they think things through more before involving us in foreign adventures while pulling on our heart felt tugs of supposedly helping people?

You know what would be aspirational?,a president and politicians who don't send us into war zones and create war zones because they were smart enough to realize some wars are best won by not being fought at all.

I rep ' d you just now... .... but ....why then is Trump leaving troops in Afghanistan indefinitely. Stop fighting . Stop enabling the fighting, on both sides. Its evil to take advantage of warring nations to try and financially benefit. US has been doing that too long. It s untrustworthy behavior and Trump crying victim at every opportunity makes it 10 times worse.

Those campaigning for president make numerous promises on things in which they do not have total control.
