Only half right.
Sessions recused himself because he does have connections with the Russians. The evidence is so plentiful he had to recuse himself. His recusal may have saved his goose, now that he's no longer A.G.
But as far as anyone knows, Sessions hasn't assaulted anyone or any of that other stuff.
Since Barr was formerly George H.W. Bush's A.G., I think he's a good choice.
If there's nothing new in his record, there's no reason why he wouldn't be confirmed again by the Senate. And the process may go swiftly, as he has already been confirmed once before.
Sessions may be a twisted, racist little Keebler Elf... but he knows which way the wind is blowing. He'll be safe from the coming storm.
I suspect McConnell and some of the other senior Repub Senators chose Barr, not Trump.
Trump was first going to nominate Whitaker for the job, but Whitaker could never be confirmed. He's far too inexperienced and shady to get it.
So Trump threatened to not nominate anyone at all and let Whitaker remain in the office as a temp replacement forever.
Since this violates the law, he couldn't do that either. Congress had to defend its rights to advice and consent. It's an integral part of the separation of powers.
Violating the law would be an impeachable offense, and McConnell would have no choice but to bring impeachment charges if Trump failed to nominate an AG replacement.
The senior GOP Senators saw all this and headed off a serious crisis at the pass. They were the ones who know Barr and his reputation. He's as clean as a whistle, and at 68, he's old enough to have full experience.

A clean, uncompromised, competent, intelligent Trump nominee? I hardly know how to react to such an anomaly.
But I suspect you're right, banjomike, this was orchestrated by the GOP. I highly doubt Trump even knows anyone who checks those boxes. All he knows are crooks like him.
Time for the Democrat left smear parade to be assembled again.
Yeah, I was just wondering who he will suddenly be accused of raping...
