'Iron-ass' Cheney and 'arrogant' Rumsfeld damaged America, says George Bush Sr

Quote:
A new biography of the 41st president – Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey Of George Herbert Walker Bush – reveals that Bush Sr held Cheney and Rumsfeld responsible for the hawkish stance that “hurt” his son’s administration, Fox News reported on Wednesday.

The book, by Jon Meacham, is based on audio diaries that Bush recorded during his time in the White House, as well as interviews with the former president and his wife, Barbara.

In my personal opinion, add Condolezza Rice to that group.

I am not sure that arrogant Rumsfeld had as much to do with it as the others, he was busy reorganizing and streamlining the defense forces and I don't see where any 9/11 stuff helped him at all. It became wasted effort as we had to gear up for the inevitable retaliation. Rumsfeld was disliked by senior leadership though.

Just because someone is weak, and easily manipulated doesn't mean you don't love them. GWB by his own accounts did not know how to handle Dick Cheney, the POTUS did not know how to handle his own picked VP.

Rice and Powell were the counterweights to Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz.

Cheney and Rumsfeld both wielded a tremendous amount of political power, one thing many people do not know is Cheney and Rumsfeld had a history of working closely together going back the Nixon administration. It was understood that when Cheney accepted the VP nomination he was not going to be the VP heading to funerals.

This may be true, or it may just be your imagination. Cheney pleaded with Bush for a pardon of Scooter Libby, who IIRC was Cheney's chief of staff. Bush said no, absolutely not, there has to be respect for the decision of a jury. Does not sound like W was 'easily manipulated' by Cheney.

People don't realize that Cheney, as SecDef under HW Bush, had been the architect of the decision not to go to Baghdad after Desert Storm. Cheney thought that the Iraqi people would take care of Saddam. By the time 2001 came along, Cheney decided that he had been wrong. Also W Bush was initially opposed to invading Iraq, per a conversation with Gen. Hugh Shelton just after 9/11. It was really Rumsfeld who pushed for invasion. People need to get their constellations of demons, gods, and goddesses straight.

.
So who won? Who was manipulated?

"President Bush commuted Libby's sentence of 30 months in federal prison"
"President Donald Trump fully pardoned Libby on April 13, 2018."

Nothing much seems to change over the years. It's not whether you are criminal or treasonous. It's not even whether you get caught. It's whether you get pardoned.

Q. How do you tell when Dick Cheney is lying?

A. His mouth is moving.

Cheney himself never even wrote things down if he could avoid it let alone use email for business.
Indeed - they were both deleted and missing - until they were subsequently located. Many were sent via use of a private server (just like Clinton).

They were found - but it wasn't for lack of trying to keep them hidden.

I thought the movie was a comedy, not that I saw it. But Christian Bale was spot on in the trailer. I didn't even recognize him. He looked like Cheney
