Exactly. Both have had the trifecta (white house, house, & senate) in recent years and not really addressed immigration in spite of oceans worth of yammering.

Those who make excuses for one side or another are just falling into the partisan trap, which just prolongs problems (not just immigration).

It's a state situation and nothing stops Texas and Florida from doing it next week. Nothing except they love their cheap labor.

Republicans proposed two laws in 2017 and 2018 requiring e-verify but were unable to pass them in the House in spite of their significant majority. The Ag and Legal Workforce Act which rewrote the H1-A visa program for foreign ag workers failed to pass. There was significant oppo from farm groups. The broader GOP immigration bill which included e-verify requirements was voted down on the House floor.

No one needs to make excuses.
It's a very simple question and formula. Trump and the right have called this the #1 Problem facing our nation, shut down the government and refused for 15+ years to talk about real laws and changes (comprehensive reform)....

BUT, nothing stops the SAME PEOPLE...in Texas and Florida...with about 2.5 Million illegals....from doing E-Verify.

This would be like Donald Trump telling us we each need to lose 30-50lbs or else he would shut down the government.

The very basics I would say to anyone...wanting ANYTHING...is "prove it...prove you are serious". The GOP has two or more ways of doing so.

1. Implement FULL E_Verify in Texas and Florida with heavy penalties. Have all employees already in jobs subject to it.....

2. States categorically that they are going to pass comprehensive immigration reform within 3 months. They have all the bills from 15 years of dealing with it. It's only the will.

But they won't do it because they don't want to. They want cheap labor and good talking points and actually fixing things wouldn't help either.

You are effectively excusing the Democrats by piling all the blame on Trump (which I 100% agree he deserves) while not mentioning that Dems had the trifecta in 2008 and did not act.

Obama did get blamed for that and while there were many multiple reasons for not voting for Hillary, Obama's inaction's here did play a role in her losing.

Does it seem fair that Hillary took the brunt of the blame as opposed to Obama? Maybe not but she was seen as an extension of the worst parts of the Obama administration.

Always an excuse.

I don’t think they really serious about reducing illegal immigration. The wall is a nice vote getter though.
Ask Trump Inc.. Trump properties perfect example of why they did not want to force the issue. Trump and Real Estate barons also against it. Still today go check out a worksite. As you walk by say hi, ask a question, and see how many replies you get beyond shaking heads and smiles.

Let them all in and pay taxes. Come out of the shadows.

Why Didn’t the Republicans pass E-Verify
You gotta be kiddin' me.

Because their pals and donors are the ones who benefit the most from illegal labor.

And that's exactly why it'll never be effectively addressed.

I like easy questions.

The main points have not changed on this subject in many years. GOP wants cheap labor, Democrats want votes from hispanics. Fingers point constantly, but the truth is no one has any real intention of doing anything about it. A wall is just a way for Trump to have something to point to and take credit for.

Mandatory e-verify was introduced in the Senate last year by Claire McCaskill, a democrat. It was referred to committee (Chairman is Lindsey Graham) , where it has not moved.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-...nate-bill/3386

It was also stripped out of a House bill last year by Republican leaders:

"Farm groups strongly opposed the defeated employee verification system. Those groups represent huge swaths of the Central Valley districts of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-California, and Rep. Jeff Denham, R-California, who have been leading immigration efforts in the House"
