I don't make anywhere near six figures, but I am doing fine in So Cal. Granted, I don't have any family or kids to support, but still.
Where do you live, are you grandfathered in (bought years or decades ago), live alone or with roommates?
I was living comfortably on less than $20,000 a year forever, paying $500 rent, $30 internet, no car, no health care etc. Thankfully things have improved but even making what I do now not sure how I would get by if I ever get bounced out of this place.
Am I the only one who thinks 46 kids per class is insane?
A very high percentage of the city is anchor babies from parents who moved to LA because of the welfare they advertise to people in third-world countries with high birth rates. When they have so many children to educate and teacher's are being compensated on average $110,000 the class sizes are going to be massive.
Lots of Los Angeles newest arrivals are from countries that have far higher birth rates than Mexico does, so the overcrowding is likely going to alot worse especially with teacher's not happy with $110,000 compensation packages.
85% of students are poor enough to qualify for free and reduced lunch, but then again Los Angeles has a massive population of people who moved to the United States for countries where having lots of babies that they can't afford is considered a tradition.
Los Angeles has tremendous population of illegal aliens who came here with large families already and they have lots of anchor babies once they move here because they think that will lower the chance of deportation.
"The average Public School Teacher salary in Los Angeles, CA is $63,761 as of December 28, 2018, but the range typically falls between $55,667 and $73,609"
I’m assuming the average $110,000 includes benefits as well as salary.

Yes. The numbers quoted by OP come directly from Los Angeles Unified School District. I’m not sure why people keep referring to the salary.com numbers nor why some seem confused by the clear statement that it is compensation which is considered the complete package.
How many more times do I need to point out that health care and vacation leave, while nice, don't pay the rent? Thus, the total compensation is irrelevant to their claims. Their claim is that the $75K aveerage wages are too low, which is arguably true in a city like LA.
Let them trade some of their health and pension benefits for up front money then. Most people pay a deductible and copay for health care.
